Original table tops if tatty go for less than a few hundred pounds, original and restored can go for £1k+.
Best to do like Shaun and get a jamma cab and Mame it if you want to play many games.
Original hardware that's getting on for 30 years old is usually a pain, better to have a newer cab, rip the guts out and chuck an old puta in there.

If you're in to MAME then this will interest you. As far as I know these are the latest complete set of ROMs and CHDs.

Just about to set off to buy my second cab now!
This one is a Sega New Net City cab that is supposed to be an absolute minter. Will be converting that to mame for vertical shooters only (I will need to rotate the screen). It's got a cracking 29" multi-sync monitor in it.
Here is a pic of the actual cab..... more pics once I get it home and all set-up!

How much would your cabinet like that sell for Shaun, all set up?
I've thought about doing this many times, but never got round to it. I'd like something where it's all complete. Not lazy, just don't have time to set it up, reading forums etc etc.

Gaz,
Which one are you referring to.... the first cabinet on previous pages or the one directly above?
The one above cost me £600 for the cab, but that is a cab that is not set-up for mame and requires arcade boards to function. This is also one of the better cabs to buy, and these normally go for anything between £900-£1200 for one in good nick. This one is MINT and was a very very good price. However it does require other bits to get it to function with Mame, as in a PC, controller -> PC Board and a modified graphics card.
It also depends entirely on what you want, as the spec of a cab can vary. Apparantly the monitor in mine is worth the price I paid for the whole cab!
You can get either a cab like I had bought initially (the red one) for £1100 all in, ready to rock. That includes everything!
Had I known then what I know now I would not of bought that first cab.... this new one will be far far superior and probably cost about the same when it is all done.
You can buy complete mame cabs off ebay, but the ones that I have seen have been a bit ropey. Good condition and nicely modded cabs seem hard to find, as quite rightly people keep the good ones.
My red cab was bought from Welcome To CandyCabs! - Home The cab is really well modded, with everything done very neatly. Great cab if you want something that can be easily pushed up stairs and easily gets through doors. I transported it the back of my Mondeo with ease (all assembled).

BTW... I would not recommend anyone trying to lift/carry a 29" CRT up the stairs. I took it like a man and did it...... but today my back is suggesting I am getting a bit older!
Yeah, it was the candy cab i was referring to. I checked out there site, they look good. So £1100 all-in, ready to go, with all the emulators etc, just need to add the roms? Albeit, with an LCD monitor instead of a fancy crt like yours.
Something else to save for.

Couldn't help posting this as a few of the posts just reminded me of it:

GazTheHat,
That is all in.... obviously without the ROMS, but they are the easy bit!
That comes with a CRT monitor not a crappy LCD one, albeit a svga one. If you want a no messing solution it is the best tbh (svga).
My red one *may be* for sale in the near future, as I am really getting stuck in to these cabs now. I have just spent a week getting my head around using a proper arcade monitor in my latest cab. Whilst it looks the best, it is a faff to sort out, whereas the red one is all set and requires no additional stress.
I am looking at getting my third cab this week, so hence the first one may be sold.
I will take some pictures of the second cab later in the week.

Just got 7,400 Mame Roms
A quick question though, what are the chd files, as they have now been posted and are quite large is size too
the 7,400 roms where 30Gb without the chd files or extras

The CHD's are basically CD or HD rips of games (based on whatever hardware the original machine was using). Some CHD's have duplicate normal ROM files, so you don't need the CHD, but some only come on CHD. I do not have a list of what is CHD only though. When I spoke to someone that knows MAME back to front recently, he explained that a total pack (that does not duplicate CHD's if a normal ROM exists) totals about 80GB. A full rom/CHD set is over 120gb, so a saving of about 40gb.
This approximate 50gb of CHD's (that do not have a duplicated ROM set) is made up of some games like Dance Dance Revolution, which are totally useless imo...... unless you have a dance mat that is!
So this additional 50gb can certainly be reduced by quite a bit.
Things like Killer Instinct are CHD only. So you would need these CHD's if you want to play these games.
I assume there must be a list somewhere of what ONLY works on CHD's.
I will have a look later.

Well..... since the Spec C is off the road getting the engine rebuilt (should be back on the road in the next week or so) I have had to plough my cash in to something I can actually have some enjoyment of, HERE and NOW!
I have gone a bit overboard with the Arcade Cabs, as you can see from the picture below. I now have THREE of 'em!!
1. The original Candy Cab in this thread - Horizontal Screen
2. A Sega Naomi Cab in this thread (Stand-up) - Horizontal Screen
3. A Sega Naomi Cab (Sit Down) - Vertical Screen
Having smashed my head in over the past couple of months getting them all set-up exactly how I want, I am 95% there, so thought I would post another image.
Just a taster for now and I will post some better ones in the near future.
Enjoy....

Mame appears to have gone very geeky!!
last time i ran a mame front end, i dumped all the roms in one dir, and the headers? in another.
The front end picked the header and ran the file... easy
can i get it to do it now can i ****!
red files, blue files, artwork, cabs,
still cant get anything to load...
and there now a squillion and one front ends, all of which are so bloody geeky
what happend to keeping things simple?
Mart

Mart360,
Try the windows version of Mame like Mameui32. Very easy to use and much like you have quoted it used to be like. If you want to get the best out of mame, you will need to delve further.
