There's a bit more to come off yet. I'll get the shape right and then tidy it up a bit.

The main aim is to knife edge the port dividers and then just tidy all the ports up, remove casting marks etc. I'm going to get them as close to the RCM ones pictured earlier.

Don't get the port divider to sharp or thin on the front edge as they will crack.

The intakes will be cleaned up but not polished smooth.

The exhausts will be fairly smooth though as I gather thats better for the exhaust gasses.

Daz,

With regards to finish, go with 320 cartridge rolls then finish with cross buffs (Scotch brite)

I left the intakes a brushed finish and mirror polished teh exhaust ports. Its the exhaust side that really needs as much cleaning up as possible. Your inlets are not really a restriction. Its all in the exhaust.

See my thread for some snaps of what i did

Also a little surface roughness on the inlets helps break up any fuel droplets.... they shouldn't make it into the exhaust

Well I quickly gave up on that idea.
I niether have the know how or the tools.

After a couple of hours with the damaged head I decided that doing this for real on the good heads was a no go for me.

Anyway, I lapped the new valves in and then I gave the replacement heads a really good clean and got everything ready for assembly for tommorow.

They are low mileage SH ones. They were pretty clean in the first place. However my previous ones started to show signs of the bare aluminium corroding so I decided to give them a light coat of paint. I've done the same on the block too. Hopefully it'll protect them against the elements.

Daz, if i had known those heads were that good i would of kept them, can't believe you gave up on the porting work, or at least matched the port to the seat area.

It was a case of not wanting to f*ck them up Paul

I don't have the know-how or the kit to do them properly so I didnt want to mess them up. My last heads which were identical to these coped with 600bhp so they arent too shabby in standard form

Things are starting to take shape nicely now

I've started to get some Sponsors on board.

Zak @ Mocom Racing

Has agreed to provide me with all fluids needed for the car. He'll be supplying Motul Oils for engine, gear box, rear diff and some brake fluid.
He's also going to be supplying a set of TRS Harnesses too.

Chris at CDF Racing is going to supply some of their adjustible cam verniers and are also going to supply me with one of their new Six Pot brake kits when they are launched.

Got a few others in the pipeline too. Watch this space as they say.

Some want exposure and attention and others want to show off their products.

I'll try and do as much as I can. I'm new to all this

Another couple of days on it.

The heads are built. I'm just waiting for some lifters to turn up.

Short motor is fully assembled, I reused my main bearings but bought new Big Ends as they had seen better days.

I just need to ream out the other head gasket to allow the 14mm head stud fitment and the heads can go on tomorrow.

I have had a fitting welded into my sump today for catch can drain back.

Unfortunately I had to leave it with the guy that did it rather than watch the job being done.

Anyway I think he's positioned it too high in th sump. I wanted it under the lower most baffle but he's done it above it.

Is this going to cause problems? i.e do I need to throw it in the bin and source another sump?

I would have thought it should be at least at the bottom of the dip stick. If you go to low you could draw up unwanted debri.
But then what do I know.
I'm GLAD to see this taking shape again Daz.
Is Clives on the backburner for the time being?

Hugh good to hear from you

It's below the dipstick. I can get just under 3 litres in there before it starts to pour out of the fitting. The question is where does the oil sit once the engine is running?

Clive's is on hold yes. trailer and all the parts are back down south for the time being.

I'm not sure when it'll all kick back off again.

Im not an expert Daz, but i dont think you will have any problems once the engine is running, as i would of thought a fair amount of the oil shall be circulating throughout the engine.

I wouldn't of thought you will have any going up into the catch tank.

Sorry Daz i read this wrong. Are you worried about the oil coming in from the catch tank in to the sump and sitting on top of the baffle?
