DIY 550bhp 2.5 STI V3 Type R
Ok done for the day.
Front mount is in situ but not bolted up yet. I'm thinking of having the two attached together somehow for ease of fitment Probably a couple of brackets welded on that bolt the two together. That way I can attach the upper part of the rad to the body work and then just make some new brackets to support the lot ofrpm under neath. Are there any reasons I shouldnt attach the two together?
Anyway here is a couple of pics of it all loosely assembled. The grill and intercooler appeture will be meshed when it's completed

I've no chance to get the car up and running for then, I can't afford to buy the parts I need to complete it in that time frame.
Which are.
Cosworth cams
Sixspeed Gearbox,
Clutch
Fitting and mapping of Syvecs ECU and associated bits and pieces.
It simply isnt going to happen before 14th March Especially after just being made redundant.

Depends how tomorrows redundancy meeting goes to be perfectly honest!
If the **** hits the fan I'll have to dust of some old credentials and go to work in of the world's numerous **** holes for a few months and I don't mean a Newcastle dockyard LOL

Newcastle dockyards?? Are you suddenly moving up in the world
Finally got round to having the screamer pipe plumbed in and welded to the down pipe. I've also had a bigger box supplied which will properly positioned and welded in place tomorrow.

Its at marham airbase on the 14th of march, you need to register with MLR pretty quicky for security or you will not be allowed on the base.
this is cool for a diy job daz fair play
that is one grim old parts list with no cash matey
proper spanner in the works that.
best thing to do with big builds is never give yourself a completion date i think as ive now learnt, just no point as you cant tell whats around the corner, there are far to many variables outside of an already difficult and time consuming job.
hope you get it sorted

The exhaust side of things is sorted (for now).
To be honest i#m expecting it to be far too loud. That said the box is well packed so I'll try it and if I have no joy I'll just re route it to the rear of the car and add an extra box to it to make it more quiet.
This is the total length of my exhaust from turbo to atmosphere:

The hole cut into the bumper and the exhaust exit.

You will be surprised, if the silencer is decent, then it will be quite low. The short the exhaust before the silencer the less room for ressonance.
The Banana was 98db at 5000rpm at Elvington.

mine did 114db at oulton park and 102.9db at elvington
ideal if you want to race at elvington all year, my advice is get it all built up and running and then take it to a track and they will give you a free sound test without booking a track day. aps also do a butterfly valve that can be fitted before your silencer which is very expensive but works

my point is not how quiet other cars are, its just that all track sound test are very different and it is never a sure thing that you will pass, also wind and location of where the sound test is, can change your db.
i had a switch on my old ecu that made the revs read less than what it was doing, this can help on some applications, but some tracks do have drive by sound tests aswel as static.
hope this helps
My wagon was consistent at all the TA events and Elvington (within 1db) at 103db, 99db at Oulton with a bung in.
The banana was consistent at TA and Elvington when it was the grey car, 102.5db. It is now a far far quieter car, full stop. I have a DB meter and it has proved to be a very good guide to most circuits.
Even on launch control it aint that loud

As i stated earlier, it depends on the quality of the silencer.
The equal length short headers also stop a lot of noise happening over the conventional headers.

you are saying that your wagon was consistant 103db at all curcuits but you had to put a bung in for oulton to bring it down to 99db, as we all no that oulton has got a 105db limit and has had this limit for at least the last 5 years. so if your wagon was consistant as you say at oulton then the bung wouldnt of been needed, right
not trying to cause a riff here mate, i just no the difference in the sound testing at oulton as i have been there over 40 times, and i am just letting other scoob owners my experiences

Nope, we were told (first time TA was at Oulton) that they were strict. As my car varied by +/-1db of 103db on most testing, i didnt want to go to Oulton and have a surprise and not be able to run, so i installed the bung to be on the safe side before i even left the farm. It recorded 99db, and i never bothered renmoving it on either the track day or the TA day.
I got pulled in on the TA day after i was picked out as loud on a drive by, along with Sam Kerr and Alex Bruce. I recorded 101db (very hot) at 5000rpm, so passed.
I changed the back box after that, as the bung was restrictive, and it recorded between 100 and 101db thereafter at all the MSV circuits.

Glad to see you put your kitchen to proper use
