Project P1 600bhp +
#123
Looks Like a Similar Spec to Marty's P1 also done by RCM.
I'm currently building a 600bhp V3 Type R with RCM parts.
Mine is based on a 2.0L closed deck block that's been linered to become a 2.5 Closed deck block. I'm using RCMS WRC Rods, Omega Pistons and already have their rotated Turbo kit. Quality of their stuff is fantastic.
Good luck with it

They have a brand new Twisted Turbo kit coming out end of Jan / early Feb.
Good luck with yours Triple

Top thread Skullfudge, good luck with it all!
P1MARTY, your car was also awesome, there's alot of room for improvement on those drag strip times though, get down the strip and start practising!
A classic with 500ish should see the 10's fairly easily with a good launch/driver.

Hi Terry
I have been on a few track days this year ,also done about 20 runs down the drag strip ,slowly getting quicker ,it does take a lot of practice ,best time so far is 11.7 at 124mph ,i know i can get the times down some more ,main problem is changing gear faster and better tyres .

I would think mine would be well into the 10's with Steve Darley or someone else like that driving it - but then I'd no doubt have a broken gearbox too
So only track stuff for me now -

That's my best time too, but haven't taken the car onto the drag strip since SSO 2007. I'm kind of scared of breaking something in the drivetrain if I try to launch it properly - which I never need to do in the Time Attack.

if i was driving it? 2nd gear
Seriously, the power Marty is running should see a 10 already in the P1, its just sometimes the driver that makes a difference.
I remember way back when Trout/Rannoch owned the grey Lateral car and that produced 555bhp, and he couldnt go any quicker than 11.7, despite months of trying. I eventually got a go when Mark bought it, and on my very first run i did a 10.92 on Bridgestone S02 tyres!
So, in short, you can have all the power in the world, however it counts for nothing if you cant launch it or change gear!
Spending money on race fuel and drag radials is pointless IMO, untill you have improved your technique.

So the driveshafts are the weak link and I'm not overly interested in buying an uprated set as I have spent enough on it already
However next plans are to remove weight from the car - using GRP panels, plexiglass and cutting out any unwanted bits of metal and generally finishing the car - so that next year it is very nicely presented

Still having trouble changing gear quick ,i know i am losing a bit with a uk 6 speed box ,only good thing i suppose is every time i go i get slightly quicker.
Problem is at the back of my mind i'm concerned about getting the wrong gear and over reving the engine.

I know what your mean about technique ,last time i went i manged to get a 60ft time of 1.72 on 18" T1R's .

I have not put mine down the strip yet but I know exactly what you mean.
When I am shifting through the box quickly, on three occasions now I have gone from 4th to 3rd instead of 4th to 5th. It's tooooo easy to do. Luckily I realised before I released the clutch.
I was telling Matt about it and asked about the possibilities of going to a sequential box setup. He said it was possible but would be a fair amount of work, then I would also have that constant wining noise.

I think if you want to get a 10 Marty your going to have to stop worrying about the box and just go for it.
Im running less power than you with about the same 60fts...
By the way when are you changing into 2nd gear?

I have got my newage spec-c down to 11.7@120mph at pod with 420bhp + 50 shot of nos so you should be walking a 10sec run really with that type of power, think it must be down to gear changing

Hi Guys
IIRC the later 6 speeds are higher geared to the following.
I think the later 2006 hawkeye UK STIs2.5 have the following ratios, as does the Forester STI (The Forester does not have DCCD thou)
Ratios 3.636, 2.235, 1.521, 1.137, 0.891, 0.707
This is the same box I use and the speeds I get in each gear.
Theoretical Speeds at 8000 rpm
Tyre set 1 43-70-103-137-175-221
Tyre Set 2 42-68-100-134-171-215
Tyre Set 3 40-65-97-129 -165-208
Set 1. 20/65-17 Michelin T04 Pattern Moulded Intermediate TA00 Soft compound 200mm wide 650mm Diameter
Set 2. BFG Drag Radials225/45-17.
Set 3. Toyo R888 225/40-17
On the strip, I have to raise the rev limit in 4th, to 8250-500 as I cant go any larger on tyres, (even with rolled arches and coilovers) and changing to 5th loses too much time.
The later 6sps are in demand and command high prices. I believe Rallispec in the US will sell you a wide ratio gear set to the above ratios for you existing 6sp for $1000ish.
With hindsight I realised a 5 sp with the correct ratios and 3.9 cwp's would give higer gearing in 4th, but brings its own issues.
Hope this is of use.

wow stunning spec and a stunning tuner to use no doubt....RCM really do look after your cars and i hope you can use the power on track and strip..
I currently ran a 11.08 sec 132mph with my set up and i don't think its quite 600bhp yet as i'm only using a GT3040...
Good luck Fudge
