you didn't mention this on sat! i did wonder why i didn't see your car when we left as you had said before that would be driving...

my mum had the same problem about 2 wks ago - she had just moved money from savings and then onto another account so my dad could buy a jag he agreed a deal with a "discount for cash" on, so it could have been worse. she banks with halifax and it turns out it was someone in their call centre - they even bought a computer from dell and had it delivered to an address in london (the invoice was sent to my dad by email as he has an account and has used that card with dell in the past!). i think my mum's money was returned within a week, but it was a tense week

i had a similar problem with a morgan stanley credit card about 2yrs ago. stopped using it straight away and it took about 9months to sort out. as they are now linked to barclaycard i will not even consider using them again due to the way they treated me many years ago

hope you get it sorted

UPDATE.

Despite Abbey agreeing that these were fraudulent transactions I am STILL waiting for my money back. Have made repeated calls - they say it is all in hand and all I need to do is sign the piece of paper and send it back. This piece of paper was allegedly posted to me on 25th Aug - still no sign of it.

Called again today - The person I spoke to said they'd fax a copy over - never did. Called again - "Will post another"

I have called the Banking Ombudsman to make a complaint about this crappy service - a month carrying a £3k hit is way beyond a joke.

Abbey are $hite. Ive recently had to change my mortgage to interest only for a few months whilst the mrs is on stat maternity pay, took 3 months for them to do it, said they sent forms out etc etc etc. ended up speaking with their complaints dept and the guy was helpful and it then got sorted over the phone and confirmation letter within 2 days

I've spent the best part of the last few days trying to help my daughter whose debit card had been used by someone to buy air and rail tickets. The Card Services people became suspicious but failed to mention this to my daughter who subsequently went overdrawn and was duly penalised by the bank who then refused to let her draw any cash.

I asked the bank if she could have a limit put on her debit card - say £250 - and any purchase over that would not be cleared. "Can't do that Sir".

Why print the Security Number on the back of the card? Anyone who physically has the card for less than a minute can scribble down the details and then use it for online stuff, as happened to my daughter, without knowing the PIN. dl

And debit/credit card fraud seems to be treated differently than other crimes. For a start the police don't want to know.

If I walked into my local post office, got behind the till and nicked £1500, I would be arrested, charged and maybe sent down for a few months.

But if I ripped someone off using their debit card for £1500 not a lot seems to happen - or does it? dl

Took nigh on 6 months to sort- i eventually got them to fax it to me after many many many attempts. Keep at it.

Dude - Trust me, I'm not gonna swallow a 3K loss. I have raised a complaint with the banking ombudsman (sp) and as soon as i get my money back I will be moving over to Barclays - I'll leave a nominal amount with Abbey so they have to service the account but that's it.

I guess I am in a fortunate situation where I had some savings and a wife who earns. My real concern is more about people who aren't in such a position - they'd have Elec / Gas / Tax / Mortgage / Rent etc cancelled or paid with big fines.
