Oxygen makes up about 21% of the air we breath and is not considered to affect global temperatures in any way. The oxygen produced by trees is not from converting CO2 to oxygen, but from water the tree absorbs. The CO2 is "locked up" in the tree and is released when it decomposes or is burned.

CO2 makes up 0.03% of the atmosphere and 0.00096% of the CO2 in the atmoshphere is man made. Yet it is this tiny fraction of CO2 that is supposidly causing catasphrophic global warming, the melting of the north pole and killing off all the polar bears, blah-de-blah... which is why I remain sceptical about "man made" global warming. Oh and there has been no warming since 1998!

Excuse my ignorance on these monstrosities, but how do they work. We live quite close to Nissan who have 6 of the ugly things. They never seem to move

As I understand it, wind generators are an inefficient way to supply electricity anyway and the eyesore factor is also against justificating erecting them.

Wave power is a better way and does not constitute such an awful visual and noisy penalty.

They only work when, funnily enough, when the wind blows and has to blow at a certain speed at a constant rate to produce electricity efficiently. Therefore the power they produce is constantly variable and has to boosted by other means, when the wind isn't blowing (coal/gas/nuclear power). This is the problem with "green" power, be it wind, solar, tidal. We'd have power cuts all over the country on "off" days when its calm and cloudy if it were not for the nasty coal/gas/nuclear power stations. Solution is to build more of these farms to meet demand,.........just as long its not in my back yard!!

its funny that we would have to damage our atmosphere with all our pollution to quite an extent before we would see the sort of winds and eratic weather that can even power these solar pannels, wind farms and tidal farms. its all a big joke! it would be nice one day if we could all have a good laugh at there stupidity but the sad thing is even if there ever proven wrong they have made that much money out of us all, we couldnt laugh anyway.
we wont be around for much longer so just enjoy it all while ya can! why preserve the country for all the gun slinging skagged up asians that are clearly taking england anyway! beats me! im off to get stonned and rag the scooby!

Braes o doune is up the road from my dads place. Its an eyesore and wind turbines are a complete waste of time and money.

They only exist and are financially viable due to the governments renewable obligations certification scheme (ROCs) which means they get paid nearly 3 times the rate per MW as other forms of power generation.

In order to provide security of supply on the network every installed MW of generation from Wind has to be covered by the same amount of other sources. I.e you have a lot of nuclear/coal etc station running off line to cover for when the wind drops. This isnt the same as other generation sources where only the largest single supply has to be covered (i think 1350MW from sizewell b? pos)

The are also incompattible with the current electrical market arrangements we have in the UK. They also cause voltage and frequency instability, cause reverse power flows in the grid, and sink reactive power as most are based on cheap induction machines. Scottish power estimate the grid in Scotland (much smaller and cheaper than englands grid) requires £1.5b of upgrades to support the proposed installations of windmills.

All in all they are a very flawed solution. Although nuclear waste isnt good, nuclear generation is the only viable generation solution for the future. There is however only 70 years worth of 235 (i think) the main current fuel uranium. however there is approximatley 10,000 years worth of uranium 238 (which can easily be used to make plutonium 239in breeder reactors) for total world present power requirement levels. Viva la nuclear.

I think this is my first post in about 5 years.
