All my mods have been done at Alan's.

Mine is 650cc injectors with Walboro fuel pump running with the oe fpr. The only reason we are looking at fitting an aftermarket fpr is that we have maxed out my injectors and therefore need to build in a safety margin.

some interesting reading here.

last night i just had fitted : (car is an MY99 RB5)

VF23
Walbro Pump
Blitz Dual SBC (running 1.16 bar max atm)

i`ve still a FMIC and a SARD FPR to go on.

tbh for the sake of £90 it was for the SARD FPR, i`d rather have total piece of mind. IMO there was no point in buying a cheap FPR or pump as they are the 2 parts of the setup you really dont want to fail

i`m not tuning god, in fact my scooby knowledge is very limited, but i was recommended that for the sake of as said £100-£200 i should buy an adjustable FPR.

Question

Where can you get hold of a SARD one for that kind of money, please?...

Regards, John.

They took it off and replaced it with a new, standard OE item, stating that it was definitely not necessary for me to have had an aftermarket FPR fitted. The car runs a max of 1.3 bar on a modified TD05.
Was it an FSE reg they changed per chance?

I cant see an SX, fuel Labs or an Aeromotive reg leaking unless it wasn't fitted properly.

Whats conflicting about about the advice given??

With not swapping the pump and reg there's an eliment of doubt.
If we look at swapping the pump and reg nobody is arguing against the fact that it's the belt and braces and the safest of all options.

What some are saying is whether you need to or not. If I knew know what I knew when I faced your decision i'd have put my hand in my pocket and bought one of the above three mentioned.

That way I know its bang on and it wouldnt niggle away at the back of my mind, what if!!!

I can't believe people are making this out to be a hard decision to make.

£200 and you know its not going to fail, ever.

Saving £200 and there is the possibilty (not a definite) that it may fail and lead to a wrecked engine.

It's not rocket science!!!

Question

What you're saying does make absolute logical sense i.e. the fuelling upto the filter/rails cannot be bettered by having a commercially available 255l/m pump and uprated fpr.

I think I will get one... Thing is can you get a just as effective one for nearer the £90 quoted above (like the SARD), or SHOULD I pay £195 for the Aerothingy? On that page you pointed me to, there were another two at between c.£135-155! Are these ones perfectly up to the job too?

i was quoted between £110 and £140 for the SARD, i in the end got one off hullsti on here for £90 delivered, it took a while for delivery and there were a few breakdowns in comms, but overall he was very apologetic and got the item to me before my absolute deadline, the only problem was it didnt come with the correct fuel rail adaptor, which i was able to buy locally today for £20

fuelab were also highly recommended to me on the RB5OC

i also got the sard as a fellow scooby owner and friend had an fse one that lasted 2 weeks before dropping massive pressure during a run and leaking everywhere.

The one I posted the link to had all the required adaptors and fittings etc and just seemed good Value for money.

I'm also only going what I know are tried and tested and in use on some of the quickest scoobies in the UK.

These are SX ( I have one of these )
here's a pic of mine in situ:

Fuel Labs and Aerotek.

All three of these are used by the likes of Andy F, RCMS, Zen etc.

Sard are also pretty good. My best mate has a Norris Evo circa 600bp and has one of these for 5 or so years without problem.

Question:
Hi Alan. The other day I sent you the message below in quotes (thanks for the response)... If I do fit the Walbro pump, do I HAVE to have an uprated FPR too?! Please advise. (P.S. If I do, what one is the best, etc.?) Thanks in advance, John.

[quote]"Hi Alan. I've got a MY93 WRX with a 3" cat-back system, Green panel filter and Scott T.'s non-mappable PP/ESL chip in the ECU, which runs 1.1bar... So far so good. I've just bought an Apexi Power FC to replace the ECU, which I intend to get mapped soon, together with the addition of a de- or sports-cat downpipe. Would I need to upgrade from my current NGK PFR6B plugs to 7s, and gapped to 0.7mm, or will the 6s suffice? (BTW the coil packs seem perfectly fine - no misfires/boost issues). Is a 255l/h pump necessary too? When the PFC gets mapped, will boost be set to 1.1... or 1.2bar (the MAP sensor limit)? Many thanks, John."[quote]

Answer: Hi John- No, you don't have to fit an FPR, it's just something that might be useful if your injector duty becomes marginal. Whoever maps the car for you will advise if this becomes an issue.
