My missus is from Slovakia and through her I know loads of Slovak people both here and back over there. All the ones are really nice people and hard working, if I had a business I'd hire them all like a shot!
You're right about the gypsies over there. IIRC there are over 800k gypsies in Slovakia alone, most of them from the far east regions where my missus comes from (she's not one).
They're a weird bunch, usually pretty harmless, they wander around begging, doing odd jobs etc. There's a few that come to my missus's village quite often, even though the people living there are poor and don't particularly like the gypsies, they usually give them the odd bit of food and send them on their way. Super compassionate really, not like people would be here.
Some people hate them though, I mean really hate them. I've heard of them having 'accidents' etc, and some hospitals sterilise them if they come in for minor operations though - all unofficial though, allegedly. It's pretty common for gypsy women to turn up at hospital to give birth, then as soon as the baby's out they literally do a runner and escape, as they can't afford to raise the child and they know they state will put them in an orphanage. This happens so much so they're often, locked into their wards until discharged with the baby. The hospitals have to bar the windows too as they climb out, even on upper floors. Quite sad really.
It's pretty funny to see some of them though, most of them look pretty dark like arab types, but there also very in-bred so they have weird features like the hillbillys off Deliverance or the Simpsons.

true mate they r dark skinned, originally they come fae india, hundreds and hundreds of yrs ago, mixing wae other native europeans etc
