not to be a pain in your **** pete but Curry's may have a point, in buying the tv you've accepted that if you get a few dead pixels it wont be covered under warranty as you should have read the manual within the first 28days.
My personal opinion though is don't give up just **** them off completely and go into the shop you bought it from and make a scene!

At no point did the salesman say that if it has faulty pixels you are on your own! He did say that my viewing experience would be better than my old CRT, which, in hindsight, is complete bollox!
Indeed, my local TV shop had a TV in with a faulty pixel - he had it for sale at HALF PRICE! ..... that was a dead pixel (Black), not a Flashing Bright Green Pixel!

i couldnt stand it myself. i never get to close to my Pioneer as i couldnt hack seeing a dead pixel on it as i would have to get rid of it.
On "most" manuals it does tell you about pixel failure. The pioneer manual for instance is very very clear on what it deems as unacceptable.
As i've said before i am a TV/HiFi Salesman i have never told anyone that there viewing will be better on a flat screen that a CRT because it is simply not true especially on LCD. As much as i love my Pioneer 43" and know it is great looking whenever i true on my Philips 21" CRT it looks just as good with DVD and EVEN BETTER on standard TV at a fraction of the price.

BigJay .... I've been through the Manuals, through the Guarantee and through the Extended Warranty Terms and Conditions - remember too that anything said in any Warranty cannot over-ride your Statutory Rights.
Interestingly, in the 12 Month Guarantee there is no mention of a faulty pixel being acceptable - but, importantly, in their extended warranty there IS a reference to it. Indicating to me that within the 12 months they are willing to accept it as a fault, but not after 12 months - unless within certain limits.
Nah, these big companies show these TVs as the best thing since Sliced Bread ... they sell them as the next best thing to the best thing on earth ... they do NOT state, anywhere I can see, that these TVs may contain faults for which you will not be covered!!
They need to get a grip, there is no need in this day and age to allow TVs to go into shops with flashing bright green pixels present! And, in the eyes of the law, my TV is considered to have had this fault at the Point of Sale.
I know that it is simply 1 pixel out of 1 million, that it may be within what the manufaturer state as 'normal', but it is not 'normal for me to pay £800 on a faulty product!
You lot are great at searching the internet, I'm not so good, can anyone find any reference to where a case like this has been taken to court - and what the outcome was? I'm sure it must have happened? CURRYS even may have tested it in court?

I think it is quite clear. Neither Curry's or LG have said anything about dead or flashing pixels in any of the paperwork or in their descriptions so the industry acceptes standard that they are whittling on about does not enter into the argument.
No one should be expected to put up with a flashing green pixel at any time regardless how often you use the TV.
Curry's and LG should bite the bullet and be honest about the fact that the tv is not acceptable and refund the money or replace the set.

Manufacturer's General Warranties and Dead Pixels Policies
Generally warranties on plasma display panels vary from one to five years (depending on brand and model), and most exclude:
The number of dead pixels that’ll be covered by the warranty isn’t always stated, and varies between manufactures. Some warranties are vague in this respect, using phrases like “within normal commercial tolerance” to describe pixel failure.
Luckily, some manufactures are realizing that what may be acceptable to their quality control standards, need not necessarily be so to the end customer; for this purpose, there is a shift among manufacturers towards a 'zero bad pixel' warranty - among these one finds Samsung and Viewsonic.
Keep in mind however that this is still not the norm with most manufacturers. Our suggestion is to get informed before you buy - it is important that you get an understanding of the manufacturer’s pixel policy before you buy a plasma screen to avoid disappointment later.

Thanks BigJay - much appreciated.
To my mind a Dead Pixel is a black pixel .... a Flashing bright green pixel is very much alive!
It is only 1 - but that 1 catches the eye everytime a dark image presents itself in the area of the pixel ........... rather than watching the overall picture, I find myself staring at where the pixel is
Interesting point about 'Evaluation' in your piece above BigJay .... CURRYS did offer to take it into the workshops for 28 days to evaluate - I have responded by saying "SEnd whoever would evaluate in the workshop out to my house and evaluate there" they said "no".

if you are taking it to court that may go against you as they are "trying" to resolve the problem by taking it in.
I have recently had a customer complain about a 2 year old TV being faulty and wanting it replaced, not fixed as he read on AVforums that his screen was a piece of rubbish.
I asked him to bring the tv in so i could send it to be evaluated at his cost because without this A: I am a manager not an engineer, B: without an evaluation it can't be proven whether it was accidential damage or manufactural damage
He refused this as he did not want to pay up and tried to take the company i work for to small claims court and his solicitor told him he did not have a leg to stand on as we were trying to retify the situation.
PLUS. I had it on system that he refused the extended warranty when buyin the TV as his house insurance would cover it. so **** him!

BigJay - I am aware of the point that they may be seen to be 'trying' to resolve the issue (which is why I haven't issued Court procedings as yet).
But, I have put the ball firmly back in their court by stating that to take it in the workshops would have no benefit whatsoever. They have sent 4 Engineers to my house to test, investigate, examine and evaluate the TV - they do not know what to do about it. Each Engineer has rung the Workshop from my house, the workshops do not know what to do and couldn't help them - therefore, to send it there for 28 days would be utterly pointless.
They have the slight disadvantage that I am an Electronics Engineer, I understand fully how these work and what faults there are. There is no dispute that a new panel is needed to cure the fault - taking it into the workshops will not alter that fact. If they simply want to see where the pixel is, well get an Engineer to measure it!
I have now offered to take more time off work for them to send a workshop engineer out to make a decision, I have offered to take time off so they can collect the TV after a full refund, I have offered (at my expense) to return the TV to the store I bought it.
In short, I have bent over backwards to assist them in carrying out their duties under the Sale of Goods Act ................. I need to appear very, very reasonable in court and I will

If it goes to court Pete, can you make sure it is open court, so we can come and watch
If it was me I would have took the TV to the store and spoke to the manager and got him to replace or refund

There is plenty he could have done, but chose not to. I seem to have explored all areas of action now.
Small Claims Courts are open Courts, just speak with the Clerk and they will make arrangements for you to sit-in and watch. You will be expected to cheer me on

Is it just me.............
..........or has anyone else printed off this thread and highlighted the bit where pslewis admits that two other people in his house who both watch the TV can't see anything wrong with it............
and then posted off copies to Peter Keenan, General Manager and Kelvin Fradley,
Customer Support Manager at Dixons House, Maylands Avenue, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP2 7TG.
OK it cost me a couple of stamps but worth it when he loses the court case

In all my years of Scoobynet membership I don't recall ever reading anything more remotely deserving of the phrase Get a life If you really have done that, you desperately need to look at ways to get out more, meet people, make friends, You know, stuff like that. Maybe counceling is an option you may also consider if getting a life is a step too early for you at this stage. I understand http://www.samaritans.org// are most excellent in helping people such as yourself take those first brave steps.

Awaiting CURRYS response to my last letter, it's important that I be more than reasonable, the judge will side with those who have tried to sort the issue out - and I have
CURRYS have simply hidden behind the Manufaturers Specification - fair enough, but they are in the business of satisfying customers as well as grabbing their money!

I doubt it.
Imagine what trouble CURRYS and the rest would be in if I won!
Every expensive Flat Screen TV would have to be perfect or they would have to warn customers that their new TV may have a fault which they won't repair!!
Would be so much cheaper for them just to refund me the money and get rid of me ..... I mean, they could sell my TV as a refurb. TV for maybe £500 - thus they wouldn't lose much if anything!

I thought it was all about to come to an end this afternoon ...... turned the TV on and guess what???
NO FLASHING PIXEL
I was really pleased, it lasted about 3 minutes and then - flicker, there it was again!!
First time it's disappeared ..... I wonder if it will just die and go black?
Imagine the scene, Court Room, Judge, CURRYS and I - TV in the middle ..... turn it on and NOTHING!!!

Can't see you winning the case now. Not now you have admitted in public that you are being pedantic, this is just some sort of obsessive crusade against dixons/currys/PCworld group and that your wife and kids are on the side of currys tech guys by saying there is not a problem with the TV.
Fact 1: you took the **** out of me once ages ago on another thread and now its pay back.
Fact 2: I work at a well known electrical superstore and don't like dealing with **** like you at work when 99.999% of the pixels are fine.
Fact 3: Nobody with half a brain discusses preparing for a court case on a public forum.
The only thing to save you now is if your real name is not Peter S Lewis, or my local post box gets destroyed before monday morning.
