Will CURRYS Come Good??
Yes, Jamie - thanks a lot
Only saw one other Scooby in the Forest of Dean ..... burbled up to the Whitemead HealthClub (anyone here?)
Now, down to battle with the SDGroup - what's my chances of getting joy without a court case?

I'd like to know how Curry's would deal with my 50" Sony should it ever go wrong?
I pay about £8 a month for their 'Whatever Happens' policy, supposedly an engineer will come out in two working days and if the item can't be repaired within 21 days then you will get a new/equivalent model.

The Tech Guys also come out within 3-5 days in any event ...... I hope you are getting a LOT more than just that for your £96 a year!!
It will never happen, and of course you will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, DEAD PIXEL ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ver, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ver, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, be able to prove it, lol.

I'm afraid that I may have some bad news for you, in that case.

Right, the MD of Currys will have received the recorded delivery letter yesterday - or maybe today - whats their next step?
I'm guessing that they will attempt to take the TV in for repair - they have refused to take it in for repair twice now ....... I'm assuming I can hold out for a refund or replacement.

I'm sure your Policy is worth every penny of your £96 a year, good luck.

Les
My CRT computer monitor now has a "dead pixel". Don't tell me that it cannot happen, I am looking at it now. Its been there for a few months, one tiny little black speck
Still, its nearly time for an upgrade

Quite - and a dead black pixel wouldn't bother me either ...... and certainly not on a PC Monitor, costing £99.
But, a flashing bright green pixel on your main lounge TV which cost £800 is totally different ....... I can tell you that little single pixel grows to the size of a dinnerplate by the end of the evening!!

The 'Tech Guys' - I doubt they are paid much, to be honest.
The two I got on Wednesday were OK, but actually didn't know what they were up to. They, and the workshops, didn't know where to measure the screen from and to - to work out if the pixel was within some rectangle
We'll take it away, not leave you a replacement, and take up to 28 days working out whether it's covered, we may have to order the panel in which will take more time - or, the workshop may decide not to repair it!!
It is staggeringly bad Customer Service - avoid CURRYS at all costs!

And bizarely the built in Wiffy worked when it cam back, even though they hadn't done anything with the software.
Is it possible for a flashing bright green pixel to dim over time - ie. could it improve?
My local Electrical Warehouse had a TV in with a faulty pixel - it was on offer for half price - £499 rather than £999. The pixel was dead and it was in the corner ..... even when it was pointed out to me, I couldn't see it really!!
Which, begs the question - where did this imaginary Manufacturers Tolerance bollox come from??

I did actually think that a black dot would cover it and render it less annoying - depends what CURRYS offer is to resolve the situation.
If I get a Refund I need to calculate what the cost is of the time I have had the TV ..... how long is the expected life of a Plasma?
I have read 50,000 hours before the light emitted is at half ..... given 6 hours a day of viewing that equals 22 years!!
Therefore, I am assuming that a 10 year life should be a reasonable expectation?
So, if the TV cost £800 and I have had 6 months use out of it, the refund should be around £760 - the courts will expect me to be reasonable, would that sound a sensible figure to claim back?

A dead pixel is black, does not flash and, on a 42" screen, should not be noticeable therefore you could have quite a few.
A bright green pixel that is flashing is not dead - it is working but not transmitting the correct and continuously changing colour signal with which it is being fed, therefore the screen is faulty.
Having established that the screen is faulty, you are entitled to return the product under the Sale of Goods Act as being "not fit for purpose". You do not have to allow anyone to repair it - your contract is with Currys [but see below if finance is involved] so what LG want to do about it is not your concern.
NOTE:You are entitled to a full refund of the monies paid.
You do NOT have to work out how long you have had the TV: YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A FULL REFUND!
If you bought it using a credit card [as opposed to a debit card], advise the credit card company that you have been supplied with faulty goods which you wish to return and find out their procedure.
If you bought the TV under a credit agreement, your contract is with the credit company and not with Currys. Advise the credit company that they have supplied goods that are not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act and ask them to remove the set and repay you.
If you are still dealing with Curry's directly and they do not give you your money back, send them a recorded delviery letter to their registered office [go on-line] advising them that you will be taking a Small Claims action against them seven days from the date of posting the letter - go online to get the right wording - to recover in full the cost of the TV plus any additional court costs and fees and any necessary storage and transport of the TV.
Advise them that the TV is readily available for collection by prior arrangement giving daytime telephone numbers they can call.
Make sure a copy of your letter is delivered by hand to the manager of the branch where you purchased the TV.
If by day 8 you have had no response from Curry's then without further delay to show that you mean business, go on-line to the Small Claims Court and commence proceedings immediately.
Good luck!
