Thanks for all our comments everyone, it really is appreciated
We have just got back from the Vets, as we wanted to go and see him, incase he doesnt make it through the night
He was sat in the pen, looking rather sorry for himself and still pretty much out of it, but he saw us and came over wagging his tail
they let him out of the pen for us, but he just lay there most of the time whilst we stroked him, all the time his tail was wagging
He has started bleeding again but only a very tiny trickle mixed with clear fluid, we spent about 40 minutes with him, and once or twice he got up for a walk round then slumped back down again
Everytime I said his name his tail started wagging again, The Vet came in and spoke to us, and mentioned a little more about Aspergillus, and said he has got a little pink back in his gums, but may put him on a drip just to try and help a little, and it really is a waiting game until he gets the blood and swab results back in the next day or two
I felt so sorry for him lying there, helpless
The Vet is almost certain that it is Aspergillosis, and the treatment has worked in the past, but it is distressing treatment (if tablets don't work) and is very costly, and is something we are going to have to make a descision on in the next day or so when the results are in
He said he will probably do another blood test to check if his count is increasing, and has almost certainly ruled out a tumour due to his age, and ruled out any kind of foreign body also
I just hope he makes it through the night, and will be dreading my phone ringing until tomorrow morning

Man this thread is tough!! When it comes to animals I have a heart of stone and usually very little sympathy but I'm almost welling up over the little guy!
Btw, if ever there was an advert for pet insurance.....OMG at some of the prices!

Our old bugger couldnt get up a few weeks back, falling over sideways, wheezing, coughing etc, I thought that it was game over, got the emergency vets number but decided to sleep on it,
She was a little better the following day and has made a complete recovery, so if a knackered , lumpy, smelly, 14 year old, blind, deaf Spaniel can pull through there is hope.

Been looking up a little on Aspergillosis, and the symptoms are essentially clear fluid almost always from just one nostril, and usually with some intermittent bleeding
However the main concern from the Vet's point of view is the amount of blood, and he is almost certain that the blood in the stomach is from the nasal passage, and this is his main concern because of the sheer amount of blood
He said tonight that Dogs usually have a pbc of around 50-54, Scooby's dropped to 27, then the bleeding stopped, then after a few hours it dropped to 22, so only 50% red cells left at the most
The blood from the stomach is almost black, he thinks possibly this colour due to reaction with the acid in the stomach, the x-rays show nothing in the lungs or any possible internal bleeding
It was actually very distressing seeing him be sick this morning in the vets, and tonight when we saw him, he wasn't sneezing but didnt like anyone going near his nose and tried to move his head out of the way, no doubt due to the prodding he has had under aneasthetic
He did have a little weeping from the right hand nostril but the Vet thinks this is possibly due to the volume that has come out, and being sucked back in
One of my neighbours (they have approx 14 collies) one of their dogs had a similar thing but it was a tumour, and they said the bleeding is incredibly difficult to stop
I think I will phone the Emergnecy Vets in a short while to see how he is doing, and see if he has perked up any

Don't know you guys, but just wanted to say your all in my thoughts.
I don't have experience of having a poorly dog but I know I'd be devastated if anything happened to my cat - my baby!
Fingers crossed for you all, really wish I could do something to help him myself x
With love

Sorry to hear about scooby i hope he is better soon wouldnt it be fantastic if our human blood could be put into a animal i would definatly do that if it was possible i have a lab myself she is about 6 now but never had any problems like that with her. Give big strokes to scooby when you see him tomorrow and try not to worry (easier said than done i know) but he will be fine.
Hugs and best wishes

Thanks Kirsty, Steph and everyone else
J4cko I remember your thread about your dog, and am glad they pulled through
I lost my cat of 14 years in January, as she was knocked down by a car and left at the side of the road for a week
I have just phoned the Emergency Vets, and the woman has just told me he has eaten and drank lots of water, and she also took him for a walk too and that he seems ok, and just a little weeping of blood from his nose
I dont want to build my hopes up, as it still could be a very long night, but it is a bit more positive at least for this evening

Just called the Vets again, and they said he has been ok, still eating and drinking, the bleeding hasn't stopped completly and is only a little now
She did say it bled a bit when she took him for a walk, but he is ok
He will be going back to the normal vets before 8.30 so hopefuly I will be able to call them before I go to work to see how he has been through the night
They have my number in case anything happens though

Ok
I have spoke with the Emergency Vets this morning before I left for work
They were very brief in that they said he had a reasonable night, and hasn't really bled through the night, and they were just waiting for him to be collected to go back to his normal Vet
I will phone them in a bit for another update

just read through this steve, really feel for you guys, it must be awful wouldnt know what to do if it was ty that was in that situation.
just a suggestion but have you got any interesting plants in your garden? when we first got tyson I was warned to keep him away from a plant in the garden as it would make him very ill.
might be worthwhilst having a wonder around the garden to see what plants you have, the one we were warned about is purple and runs on a stem. cant think what it was called.
I hope it works out all well for you guys, fingers crossed for you.

Sonic - sounding postive - I was dreading opening this thread.
Just for other dog owners (and your own piece of mind), did the vet give any advice on avoiding this horrible fungal disease?
Really does sound very nasty.
