Gameplay are selling the PC dvd version for £24.99, so it seems that steam is ripping you off as you can get it cheaper with all the packaging.

Amazon.co.uk: Bioshock - Limited Edition [Tin Case] (PC): PC & Video Games

The reason you would drop it is because, potentially, you will make an even bigger profit.
The pressure to sell your product is bigger now than it ever has been in the gaming sector. Development costs are enourmous, and that money needs to be recouped.
Dropping the price to stimulate demand is a well known economic practice. And you would have thought with BioShock, especially given System Shock2's history, they would be keen to actually sell some product this time.

im actually more miffed about the price slashing of the hardware, having a less than perfect replacement only after a few months.
its the false advertising of listing the lowest denominator that bugs me. save £140 buy for £300 but offer only for a month. ok so i bought for £280-140+300=£440 seems a lot for a premium (*working is optional) unless ive got my maths all wrong?

RE purchasing the came code online...
Never again....
I purchased Guildwars via play.com... (us code site)
Cost me £39.00 no discounts, despite the rrp being lower in the shops..
(I asked for a hardcopy manual, as there waas quite a bit of key malarkery i was missing)
you get no manuals, sod all (sorry, very little support) from the supposed game guru's, instead they encourage you to ask players online for help
contrast my nipper paid £9.99 for the deluxe pack, gets a full manual set, increased spells, etc and a host of extras...
Ive stoped at level 13..he,s finished the game and bought the next campaign deluxe pack (bit more expensive though)
I used to spend appox £10-20 per week on games when consoles & home computers came out... (about 1-2 games per week)
if i were to do this today, i,d be looking at approx £100..
at 10-20 per game, i can afford a random punt, at £40-50 per game it has to be exeptional....
After all the SW house makes its money on the sale to the dealer/distributer.. its the marks ups by the third parts that add up

Because you are cutting your profits in half, and there's no garauntee that you'll sell twice as many to make up the difference. Of course you may end up making more money, but on the other hand you may not. When you have a known stable market, why rock the boat. I'm not saying it's right, I just suspect that's the mentality...

Anyone checked out the widescreen issue ?

Check the overclockers thread in PC Games re:Bioshock. There are specially enhanced graphics drivers for Bioshock. There is a way to alter the screen to allow better widescreen format.
Theres also an issue regarding AA under DX9.
I got my copy of PC today and my GF is working late tonight WOOHOO

So anyone been playing the game then (Either 360 or PC)
Got as far as Neptunes Bounty. Trying to go over every inch to find every little item lying around. Decided on my first walk through I'd be the good guy to the little sisters - couldn't bring my self to harvest the ADAM. (Plus the Mrs was watching the screen and said "Don't you dare!")

this is going to run and run...
BioShock is "testing the limits of the ultraviolent gaming genre with a strategy that enables players to kill characters resembling young girls."

I've just got to the point in Neptunes Bounty where I have to take 3 photographs of those Spider Zombie Mutated things... Trouble is each time I get the camera out and line up the shot they either move or bloody attack me.....

Can you not kill them first then take the shot ?

The gaming community seems much more concerned about an issue with the number of times you can install the game. Apparently you can only do it twice. The game puts something undeletable onto the HD. Big uproar on t'internet.
MODS: Is there any way we can change the title to advise of spoilers.

There are a number of people of the 2k forums which have stated cancelling their pre-orders because of this.

That install thing is really dodgy. Glad I got the 360 version instead, (even though my pc can play it with ease). I've about completely given up on pc gaming these days...

I'm on medium. Think I know where you mean. I found in the first area Splicers went down best with electro-shock when they are in water. Zap the water, they flid out and just run up and **** them repeatedly with the wrench.
I'm also freeing every little sister before moving on to the next area.

the only little sister i ever saw was the first one when she is introduced by the bloke on the radio (ie: the demo one)
the part where i got killed i dont think there was any water, its the party where the bloke on the radio says "ohh you have rattled the cage now"
i ended up running out of bullets for the guns
