IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - AUGUST SHELSLEY WALSH
The August 17th-18th-19th meeting at Shelsley Walsh has been cancelled due to landslip damage at Shelsley. An alternative date of the 6th and 7th October has been agreed subject to confirmation by this weekend by the Championship coordinator.
The format of this October meeting will be a condensed version of the British and Midland Hill Climb Championship that would have run on the 17th-18th August, plus a similarly condensed version of the British Hill Climb Championship 60th Anniversary scheduled for 19th August.
It is anticipated that 150 cars will contend the British and Midland Championship part of the event while thirty significant cars relevant to the History of the British Hill Climb Championship will make up the programme in three additional classes.
The Curborough Sprint scheduled for the 7th October will now take place on the 21st October. Competitiors who have entered this event will be contacted in the next few days to confirm whether their entries should stand for the revised date or their entry fee should be reimbursed in full.

I'm running on stock RA diffs at the moment, although I did just have my rear diff rebuilt and tightened at Zen which has made a big difference, I was suffering with massive inner wheel spin in tight corners, it just propells me forward now and my times reflect it.
So I don't have much experience with different boxes and diffs, but there is a lot to be said for the standard RA stuff, with a bit of tweeking when you get bigger power.
I know Graham (911) has tried several different diffs, one which he hated so much he removed it immediatley! His brain might be worth picking on the subject.
Hope that helps dave.
Rob.
thanks for the advise Rob I like it when we can use standard parts I guess it means the cash only gets spent somewhere else thought I think we are fooling ourselves if we think weve saved money

Just back from the final Loton Midland 'A' meet of the year and quite a weekend it was to.
I went well in practice saturday, mid 56's all day the best being a 56.42, Pete was not far behind on 56.82 Roger Banks was in the 55's out front as usual and his car looked amazing coming up over the rise at the end of the straight.
It rained saturday night and the drive there from where I was staying in mid wales was a miserable one, but when I got to loton it was nice and dry and apart from a 5 minute down pour just after our first runs it was sunny all day. first run was strange, it felt quick but was the slowest run I have put in at Loton for a while, 57.02 putting me 3rd behind Pete 56.75, and Roger Banks in the Audi S4 56.27. Roger had damaged a suspension arm on the kink of cedar straight ended up going slower than his best practice on Saturday but was still way out front.
My personal best was 56.29, and it looked like the A4 was not going to run again due to the damaged suspension arm, so I figured if I could pull a really, really good run out of the bag I might have a chance of getting under the 56.27 Roger had set in the morning. I couldn't rule out Pete going quicker but after speaking to him he really did think he was pushing the limits of his car with his first run time and would struggle to go much faster.
On inspection of my slicks it was apparent they are pretty much f**ked, nasty wear patterns from under inflation and boiled up dead rubber everywhere I decided not just to tidy them up but to surform about £50's worth of rubber off them and get a total fresh start if I was going to better my PB and be in with a chance. Not much fun in the blazing sun, it took me about 90 mins and I now have a big blister on my palm.
Roger set off home with Keith of Dialynx to repair the damaged part and it looked like they wern't going to make it back in time to run again, but some minutes before Fenn (Roger's sister who dual drives the car) was due to go out for her run in the batch before ours they arrived and got the car going again, a great feat but a bit soul destroying for the rest of the class.
I did a burn out to end all burn outs and got a flying 1.83 launch time, I nearly didn't make it round the first off camber corner at logger heads but kept my foot in and managed to matain the excessive speed all the way through posting my PB triangle split by some margin of 21.43, onto cedar straight I got a great exit from keepers and redlined 2nd, 3rd and treated the straight as a proper straight, on 2 wheels with the rumble strip under my sump all 4 wheels leaving the ground so some spectators later told me. I kept my foot in longer than I ever have and as usual had little or no chance of stopping and got into a full 4 wheel locked up slide, working engine braking to the limit the slide started to calm down I could just see the apex of fallow squeezed the throttle back on and it just came round. I was a total passenger through the braking section and was lucky my slide pointed me in the right direction, no fuss to the finish line and I knew it was a quick one as I was shaking like a leaf but worried it was too scrappy to be under the 56.27. I got out of my car to a round of applause from recovery truck team and previous runners, not for my performance but for "the longest black lines ever left at Loton", they then went on to tell me I had posted a 55.79, a new class record and had taken the lead from Roger Banks in the Dialynx A4. After a spill of oil delayed things I got to watch Roger come up into view, then come to a near stand still through fallow with his rear wheels locking up and going slower than the moring giving me the class win, and new class C1 record. Not something I, or anyone else thought possible.
Chuffed is not the word, it was a kamikaze run come good the car was amazing and never missed a beat all weekend and just kept pulling all the way through the final run. At the risk of sounding corny I really could not have gone that quick without the help and hard work of Paul at Zen I am very grateful for his efforts.
Ash Mason, the westfield driver who is tied on points with Roger in the Midlands Hill Climb Championships greeted me in the pits and flatteringly if not worryingly told me he loved me as Roger coming in 2nd gave him a lead of 3 points in the midland champs, Ash was running 3rd in class but pulled out a good run at the last second to give him the win.
Pete went slightly slower despite a better triangle split time and fell foul to having too much speed on board after the straight typical of when a run is going well and ran wide through fallow corner costing him precious time. Graham couldn't match his 57.80 PB antics of saturday and came in 4th.
After collecting my award I was honoured to be declared the man of the meeting (equivalent to man of the match in football) for my kamikaze efforts, which is an honour indeed and I look forward to collecting my award at the annual dinner, If Pete, dad and I don't get too spannered first.
I have derided Roger Banks in previous posts on this thread for what happened at Prescott in the last meeting but Saturday morning I cross threaded a wheel nut when changing wheels next to where he was parked he went to great lengths to rethread the nut so I could run and was polite and decent towards me despite I expect having read what I have written about him on here, so whilst I do not agree with what he did a Prescott I must say he's a very decent bloke who rose above all the sh*t just to help me out, and was also very courteous in defeat, so thanks Roger.
3 weeks till Prescott where I'm sure the class standings will be set to rights as Roy is back on hillclimb compound slicks, Graham is rapid, Pete is just mega and Roger's record is insane, but as today proved anything is possible.

Very well done to Rob. I have maintained that he would be able to beat the Audi, in his car, on equal terms, and now he has done it. It just goes to show that a car that handles in such a way that it's fast, yet can be thrown around with confidence and 100% commitment can make up for a deficit in power.
The spec has been largely unchanged for the past 3 meetings, the extra time has come from Rob's own ability, and a car that he knows. Over the winter I think we will have to give the car the power it deserves, as I think Rob has certainly mastered it in it's current guise. Another 100hp will be a good start.

Cheers all, I wish I had some video to show you but I get distracted by messing around with the recorder and wanted to concentrate on the run, I have footage of my earlier run but it's rubbish so I will keep that one for my recycle bin.
great read there rob

I think that will be easy Paul/Rob.
Rob's efforts are a great credit to the people and the base car, and has the secret weapon of seriously deflating the opposition.
I was surprised to see Roger leave the event early and not stop for prize giving, but he has lost the dream of the Championship win now, so it is easy to imagine how he feels after all his investment.
Time to make it a full-on racer now Rob! (1000 Kg?)
Good luck in the future, and keep it on the Black Stuff!
Graham.

Stunning drive Rob and and excellent report on the day's acheivements
One of Rob's launches (my god his car is quick off the mark - 7 seconds quicker on the overall run than me - mind you I am older, balder and fatter):
