Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.
I haven't managed to get to any of the HSA/Prescott events this year - doh!
In 2008 I plan to do most events at Shelsley and Prescott - after a few hours "tinkering" over the Winter
Still so much to do.......................................

£8000 = bargain Graham
So far spent £9,000, so a bit more is needed to get a really sorted Impreza.
API have become the main recipient of my huuuuuuuuuuuuge salary
PS Wife knows nothing
Will we see you on Sunday?

It was one of those rare days that i got to sit back and watch the racing really interesting and a real eye opener getting to see what a 56 at loton looks like in a road going car, we have really progressed in speed along with the cars. Rob managed a 21.77 to triangle but failed to put the top half of the run together locking up into fallow making A 56.84 a shame really because he had done the hard work and it would have been a 55!!! Dad in his audi stuffed my record of 56.61 down to 56.44 in his first run then 56.20 on his second! much respect 65 years old hammering that thing up hills like that what a bloke!

Sounds great, and great times too Rob.
Had a contrasting day too.
Silverstone was sunny and the 911 went really well.
Got to do 2 laps with literally 200 other Porsches on the track!
With a bit of tricky hanging back we got to do about 1/4 of the runs fast.
I have to say, chasing other 911's at 3 figure speeds on that track has it's attractions!
Just wish I had some brakes...or a stronger right leg.
Time Attack starting to look good!
Graham.

Excellent stuff Graham - braver man than me.
Rob and I had a blinding (and very sunburnt Sunday at Loton) - Rob pipped Mick for 1st in Class and I managed 2nd in Class 1C with a personal best time of 62.01 (61s in September me thinks).
My time could not have been achieved without Rob's help in existing Triangle Corner (max it in 2nd gear).
My God his car is so quick
A huge thanks to Rob
I will post pictures and videos in Member's Gallery on Monday (too tired and my head hurts with the sunburn).

Pictures and videos are of Rob's STi Type RA, Mick's Quattro a few Astons, Radical and a stunning 250 GTO replica - but most of the guys I talked to would have taken Mick's Quattro home as our first choice

Ah...just the Magic of Loton Park!
Good going by the sound of it, and more of a rush than my Sunday today!
Imagine Rob with another 100bhp from a 2.5!
Are you joining us in C1 next year? (Kumho/slicks and a 2.5...)
Graham.

Not sure whether to sell my car and get an STi with a 2.5 already done?

You weekend times are well under the A4 Rob at Loton.
Just had my finals for Aug meeting and the record is 55.8 iirc.
Was that meeting a dry warm day? Can't recall; seems so long ago now.
Very small class in C1 and C2 ...not good for Championship points for Roger as the Locaterfields are in their millions as usual.

A very enjoyable weekend at Loton, amazing weather
Saturday I drove like a bit of a muppet pushing too hard where I needed to drive and driving where I needed to push, like Pete said above I had done all the hard work and was bottling it up the straight and making a mess of fallow and musuem by being too aggressive, like in the video Pete posted above where I take 2 bites at museum by being impatient and losing lots of time. I came in second with 56.84 behind my dad who was flying and set a new class record of 56.20.
Sunday and after breaking down the days event with my dad over a few beers the night before I explained my frustration about not catching my PB with a now much improved lag free car and he said I'm too keen, foot to the board or nothing on the gas way too early spending too much time sideways and losing time. So I walked the track and after reaching a bit of a brick wall with times decided to change my whole approach to driving even if it did slow me down initialy.
As some one much smarter than me once said "Corner exit is racing, everything else is just waiting".
Applying my patient exits to the corners and excercising much more throttle control I instantly equaled my PB of 56.70, it had paid off.
Into the competetive runs I pushed more without going crazy and posted a 56.29, smashing my PB. Just 7/100ths ahead of my dad on 56.36.
Final run and with a really quick time in the bag and my dad breathing down my neck and the prospect of getting into the 55's I decided to apply my new found driving skills with a twist, I inteded to try and completley flat cedar straight right upto the braking area from the exit of keepers, redlining every gear on the way for the first time ever. Now flatting a straight may not sound like much, but it's far from straight, and anyone who has driven loton and has also seen how fast my car is can probably appreciate that it is no laughing matter and seriously risky.
The run started great 1.87 launch then, posting a PB triangle split of 21.70 I was away onto cedar straight and went for it, I kept it flat all the way up the car leaving the ground over the undualtions at upwards of 90mph, I had made it, arriving at the top with an extra 15mph or so onboard, now could I stop? No I couldn't, locking up sideways then over shooting the corner onto the grass getting back onto the circuit and still posting a rapid 56.35. If I had managed to make the turn I dread to think what time I could have posted, watch the video below and you will see just how much it cost me. My dad posted a 56.32 giving me the win by just 3/100ths. So a case of what could have been, but now I know what is possible in a taxed and mot'd road legal Impreza, which is a testament to Impreza's, and to Zen Performance.
Graham, the A4's record is 55.86 which is 4/10ths faster than my PB and is a very tall order, had I managed to get it round fallow on that final run I think I maybe could have beaten it. If conditions are right and I was on it like Sunday then I think it's achievable, but I think we all know he will go faster again, and he was having some car problems when he posted that time so who know's what he can achieve.
Well done to Rich who drove like a demon, I'm glad I could be of service.
Video of my final run below, 1.87 launch, 21.70 triangle split, 56.35 time despite over running fallow, and flat all the way up cedar straight

As long as there is 6 or more then full points are available and there are currently 7 in the class. This meeting could be when the A4 takes the lead if it performs as on talking to Ash mason a few weeks back he thinks his class record at Loton will be very hard to beat.
Some pics from the weekend.

Rob:
I was thinking the numbers in the classes are getting smaller over the year, not so much for points as general interest?
iirc there were 10/12 of us in C1 at the start?
Must get the Impreza out on sunday to find out what it is like again.
Racing the 911 has confused me! More my 'pace' I think, ie a cruiser!!
Graham.

I remember mate, was just on my way back from Loton Park and under orders to bring back macdonalds for the wife. Nice clean motor you have there. Thanks for the kind words

Yep!
The long summer 'holiday' has made me feel a bit jaded too tbh.
The excitment has gone off a bit.
I think I should have done more events maybe to keep going, but feel a bit take it or leave it!
See what Loton brings.
Hope you are planning/saving for the next big step-up for 2008.

Haven't really thought about it, although there was an impreza sport racing at loton which had some really interesting different stuff done to it it was very well prepared which has given me some good value for money ideas but only minor tinkering. There is a lot of time in car the yet so not really thinking too big, although it will need a proper gearbox sooner or later. long way off yet though so who knows, I know Pete has big plans as his sponsor wants him to do Time Attack as well as the hills next year.

Ahh I see what you mean. Interest does seem to have dropped off a bit, Roy being the most obvious casualty, I think his daughter is getting married, I also think he has had enough after the dodgy goings on at Prescot, which is a shame as the class is not quite the same without him. No Geoff either for the first time this season. Roger is going to have to hope everyone who entered shows otherwise he could be on diminished winning points.
See you at Prescott and hopefully Shelsley ( if its on ) in September and the finale at Shelsley October 7/8.
Best Regards, Geoff.
Yeah it's 100%, the hill is in serious trouble so I am told with the banks betweeen crossing and the kink having collapsed down onto the track, as far as the spectators footpath in some places, it has been rescheduled for october 7th & 8th.
, oh well gives us more time to finish it
