Norton is a nightmare

I think we have all learned a lesson today
whilst Norton does work for some people, it is universally renowned for being an overhead hogger . Now in my profession I have used tons of differing products (on windows based machines, not macs ) and by far the worst I have encountered is Norton Internet Security. It is not a bad product by any means, it just tries to do it all. And when I say ALL, I mean in terms of firewall, phising filter, antispam, virus, internet browsing security etc etc.The same goes for McAffee products...they should be ashamed of their products
Unfortunately it falls foul of "one solution does not fit all" and in doing so, disables a lot of built in stuff in windows which is quite capable of doing the job well.
Norton Anti Virus on its own is fine, though still a resource hogger.
Critically the point raised by 84of300's post, is that Symantec products are notorious for being a PITA to remove, registry entries, hidden in common files etc, which is why sites exist to remove the blessed thing !!
Many people will have their favourite or recommended solution, just be aware that it dosent always suit everyone....
I personally think that using windows based firewall and anti-spyware coupled with a decent anti virus solution and some common sense will keep you safe, whilst some people may want a more complete solution.
If that dosent work for you..buy a mac
