2004 04 Reg MG ZR 1.4 105 - Any good?

Thank you. We are not in the USA. We are in the UK. Ford is the biggest seller of vehicles in the UK, by some margin. Please explain how this can be the case if all it's vehicles need repairing on a daily basis.

Certainly. Ford UK has a completely different product range, made in different factories by different workers. Now perhaps you would like to explain the relevence of VW to this conversation. Thank you

these are very good little cars ,i think at one time the 1.4 k engine was the most powerfull 1.4 nasp in production.the mg zr was the biggest selling hot hatch at one point as well.
They are great fun to drive and the engine is strong ,they only weigh a ton so they dont need a big engine to nip along quickly.
parts are not a problem and they are reliable, i frequent mg forums so i am talking with some knowledge, instead of out my *** like some .

That saying is so far out of date it's untrue, but perhaps we should expect nothing more from you!
Back on topic, I drove the diesel version ZR and found the engine disapointing a bit sluggish but the car itself I found to be of good build quality, and quite a nice place to be, comfortable if slightly dated in appearence.
My friends ex had the 1.4 engine and he was always impressed with that engine, never drove it personally so can't comment on the performance.

You might have seen this already, but this review is pretty good. The reviewer doesn't like the colour, but looking beyond that, he likes the car.
As for reliability, my old man's current, and 2 last cars were all Rovers based on the 1.4 engine, and he's had no problems with any. They're not particularly fast (though his have been in the full pipe 'n' slippers car guises) but they do rev well, and are good on the motorway when up to speed. Good economy too.
As some of the more informed have already said, parts won't be a problem, as the ZR is essentially the Rover 200, which has been made for donkeys years.
I've been in a few - my brother used to work for several MG dealers, so has had them as co-cars. Handle very well - better than my Fabia vRS, and they certainly look like a hot hatch. Insurance is low on this model too.
The only thing I don't like about them is the driving position, which was the same in 200s. But that's just me.

Rating - 1 out of 5 Running costs
Rating - 1 out of 5 Quality, practicality and equipment
The car had no power compared to what it looked like - a true sheep in wolf's clothing.

Ford of Europe (FOE) makes a profit now, it never used to. FOE vehicles are more reliable than they ever have been. VOR part deliverys are way down on what they used to be in the days of old fiestas, escorts, sierras etc.
Ford is losing all it's money in the US and in some of PAG. It used to make silly money in the US from SUVs and Pickups which it isn't now and Jaguar loses money for fun still. It's also losing huge amounts of money on it's massve pension/healthcare costs that are crippling all big old US companies now. It's nothing to do with being fix or repair daily

I bet that took ages to think up.
I would say that your mate should have a drive and make his mind up, they do actually drive pretty well despite what some are saying, they are nippy rather than fast, they handle very well, even the standard 25 is quite nimble. My mum has a V reg 25, we upgraded it from 80 bhp to 105 by swapping the throttle body, half hour job, 40 quid, an extra 25 bhp.
Dont expect a bomb proof luxury interior, they are pretty comfy but its definitely old school 90's in there but its perfectly adequate, they do have some silly niggles like clock bulbs going.
I think the 3 door is actually a really nice shape, in the right colur with the right alloys they are a really good looking car, if you take a moment to lay your prejudices to one side.
Maybe Rovers are like the fat bird at school, quite enjoyable but you dont want your mates to find out.....
