it arrived yesterday and my neighbour kindly signed for it. Haven't run a full benchmark yet, but without any tweaking to optimise it, frame rates in live for speed tripled, and a brief run of 3DMark05 returned an average frame rate of over 40fps in the GT1 - Return To Proxycon demo. I got 5.6 before.

Thanks chaps...

jesus thats a low frame rate

i run an old xp2600 cpu @ 2.13ghz, 1gig cheap ram and an ati 9700 pro GFX card i got for peanuts.
4xaf/as and i think 1024x768 screen res or 2048x768 when running dual screen.

i have also installed loads of extra high res textures, LFS is on max quality, and a full online grid of GTR cars can still see me hitting 30+FPS

usually around 70/80/90ish when racing once the race is under way and the cars space out.

what drivers are you running?

I'm just using the standard ones on the CD, my brother uses the Omega Drivers. He could be telling me porkies though.

i got a performance increase in ditching the omega stuff and going to the catalyst ones, but not a massive amount.

what screen res are you running in LFS?
do you have the high res texture settings enabled?

I've only had the pc running 10 minutes. I'll get more chance to play and find out what works best at the weekend.

Hi Pumpkin.

I just got a pretty crap score of 2127.

Spec of my machine is a HP Pavilion:
P4 3.06 GHz
1 gig RAM (not sure what speed this is tbh)
Only running a 128mb on board video card (Intel 910Gl Express Family)
Of 19 other similar specced machines on the PCMArk05 database mine was the slowest!

Would a better video card help me too, I imagine the onboard one is pretty hopeless!?

cheers

Brett

Re-run 3DMark05 - now 7914 with default driver settings, and only 50 points off the fastest comparable system...

Was 1193!

I'll re-run PCMark05 next...

Yes it would make a huge difference (although the machine is pretty long inthe tooth now)
And Yes the onbard one is worse than useless.

Be worth checking to see if you have an AGP Slot before buying a card, some pavillions with the Trigem motherboards didn't have an AGP slot.

Cheers Pete

Motherboard is an MSI GYPSUM 3.10. No good?

It doesn't have AGP but it does have a PCI-Express slot. I thought this was better than the AGP is that not right?

In that case a ATi Radeon X1950 Pro for about £ 100 would transform the speed in games / 3d apps.

Thanks Pumpkin. I think with a card that good I will need to also upgrade my PSU, I think it is only a 350W. or do you think a 350W would be ok?

it will need a beefy psu as well. My X1950 Pro has *two* additional power connectors on the board.

I use a Hiper 580W type-R PSU which comes with loads of connectors. This runs my P4 3.4Ghz with 3 hard drives, 2 opticals, 1 floppy, usb devices, new gfx card and case fans. Its about £ 50 (less on Ebay)
