This, IMHO, is a good example of solidarity. He's speaking up for the decent black people of America and berating the wannabe "gangsta" culture that is so pervasive in certain sections of US society. This culture has been instigated and perpetuated to a large extent, by the media. Watch MTV's cribs- you won't have to wait more than 2 minutes to see some di*khead rapper, who can barely string a coherent sentence together, boasting about his 3 Bentleys and Playboy Grotto

"This is where I get my Cook on and my eat on!!!!"

WTF, you're just ignorant and illiterate and that's cool is it!?!? Well according to MTV it is! These individuals are put on a pedestal by the media and become the role models for kids in the US and now, the UK too!

The depressing thing is that there is a parallel between what Chris is referring to as the distinction between black people and ******, and white people and what we would call "chavs" which, lets face it, frequently extol the virtues of wannabe gangsta culture.

Solidarity isn’t just standing back and watching a section of society that you are affiliated with (by race, religion or whatever) degenerate. It’s about speaking up for the good people!

Kudos to Chris Rock; pity there aren’t more like him!

See comments about division between black people and ****** reflected in conflict between white people and chavs, What are Wayne and Coleen if not Chav icons?

Look at the recent Jade Goody episode. She's basically loud, talentless, uncooth, ill-mannered ; she got to be a celebrity pretty much on the basis of her personality and class...or lack of it on both counts!! So why is everyone surprised at her disgraceful conduct in Celebrity BB when she's only doing what brought her to the table in the first place?

The crux of Chris's comments about the distinction between black people and ****** can be applied to any race. He's basically saying that any race has its problem sub- cultures, the issue is that, more often than not, the media play on these subcultures and put them on a pedestal as being "cool" and something to aspire to! When in truth, all they do is damage to the demographic they represent.

I think, judging by the audience's reaction, they agreed with him too!
