I agree with what shaggy said earlier about owners needing a licence type thing. Surprised no one has mention the woman who had a face transplant after her loving dog (think it was a labrador) bit her face off. A lot of the problems stem from the owners who would probably think nothing about giving their dogs a good beating which does nothing to help the dogs behaviour.

There's been a lot of chatter about this in the play ground this afternoon....

I overheard someone saying that he shouldn't have had that dog because he was supposed to have applied for a licence to own it and he didn't.

They were all saying what a rough family they are too.

The poor little girl didn't deserve what she got, despite the type of family she comes from. Such a tragic way to die at such a young age too, in some respects, I hope it was quick so she didn't feel fear or pain before she died at the teeth of that creature

 

i have always truely beleaved that dogs react in the way that they have been brought up, ive grown up with dogs as my parents used to breed and show german sheppards, had a few rottis now, jack russells, and all have been great especially with us and our kids.
But the rel thing that gets me is the way ppl react when they see a 12 stone rotti walking towards them and **** them selfs due to what they heard about them on tv.

you cannot bring in the need for licences for dog breeds because what would happen to all the current owners??? if there were idiots that were not able to obtain the licence then the country would end up with thousends of dogs being abandoned which would mean strays all over the place!!

People with genuine dog phobias will be scared of anything. I can guarantee you that if I dyed my dogs tan bits black and gave them tail extensions we wouldn't see one tenth of the adverse reactions we see to our two.

if the present owners of illegal Pit Bulls cant be bothered to have them muzzled i dont see how a dog licence would do anything other that make the ***** that own and breed them go to ground.

the acceptable Pit Bull breed has been destroyed. if you do some research you will see that the dog we see now is very far removed from what it is meant to be.
its sad really because they were once a trusted breed that had a job to do,like many other breeds, now the majority are bred to act like killing machines

i wouldnt trust one as you dont know what its parentage is and what it has been bred for, they all look cute and fluffy when they are young....

Another angle on the story of the little girl, I over heard a rant about the fact that this dog has attacked a few people and other dogs before now but the owner intimidated them into not reporting it, so they were too scared.

If there needs to be a licence for these kinds of dogs, they should apply BEFORE getting the dog, and if get refused fair enough, get something else. If people HAVE to own this type of dog, they only people responsible and well able to handle them should have them. Not a good idea in the hands of some docile idiot who can't train them properly and are incapable of preventing attacks etc.

errr...is that Tiggs as in me? Dont think i have posted on this thread?

For the record - i have owned many English BT and a few staffies.....would never have another though as i cant see the point. Plenty of other dogs that offer the same benifits without the downsides.

 

i wish everyone would see it like that
