Well said r32. Bang on. I've waided through most of this thread and it's all been said over and over. What we need is some government action.
BTW, also agree with SaraS's comments.
Richard.
PS We have three dogs, lest I be accused of being anti-dog or whatever.

You dont get it do you. These dogs were bred to fight, its in their nature. They can never be trusted along with the other three breeds mentioned in the dangerous dogs act. No sensible person wanting a pet or a family pet would consider owning one. They are owned for show, not because they are a lovable breed.
Blaming the vicous ones on the owners is like saying have a lion or tiger for a house pet and only expecting it to be nasty if they belong to 'bad' owners. Its inbred, its in their nature, treating them right wont ever get rid of this trait completely.
They should all be put down, the sooner the better.

Should <small aggressive dog> be outlawed?
No, the owners should.
These dogs need specialist care.
They have developed a reputation for being aggressive. That reputation has attracted the sort of owners that really should NOT own these sort of dogs......
The rest is in the news every month or so, most recent example a 5yr old girl.
The owners (some of them) are the problem, not the dogs.
If the law can't stop scum types getting their sovereign clad hands on these dogs then the unfortunately the dogs will have to be the sacrifice - as opposed to 5 yr old girls.

Update...........
Druggie scum + dangerous dog + child =..............
LONDON (Reuters) - The grandmother of a 5-year-old girl who was mauled to death by the family dog has been charged with her manslaughter, the Crown Prosecution Service said on Tuesday.
Ellie Lawrenson died from serious head and neck injuries at a house in St Helens, near Liverpool, on New Year's Day.
Her grandmother, Jacqueline Simpson, who suffered injuries to her arms as she tried to wrench the dog away, was also charged with possession of class A drug diamorphine.
Prosecutors said they had charged the girl's uncle Kiel Simpson with possession of a dangerous dog.
The animal, a banned pit-bull type, was destroyed immediately after the attack.
The girl had been staying at her grandmother's house for New Year's Eve.
In a statement issued after the attack, the girl's family said: "Ellie was always happy and smiling. She was a little angel, full of life and always running around

I think when found guilty, a jail term for either is highly unlikely or will be the minimum term...
