Red face Insanity in the name of God

Just watched a recording of last night's Louis Theroux show - The Most Hated Family in America.

The Westboro Baptist Church - which is pretty much a single, extended family in Topeka.

Mad as a box of frogs. Their main message is that God Hates **** and their main activism is to picket the funerals of US Soldiers with banners saying things like God Loves Dead Soldiers, God Loves IED (Improvised Explosive Devices - car bombs to you and me) right outside the funerals.

They did these pickets during 9/11.

They also rub it in by using pictures of '****' in action labelled US Soldiers and rubbing the US flag into the ground.

As you can imagine this goes down well with the patriotic soldier types and their families!

If you do a search there is a lot of material about them - rejected by even the most homophobic activists in the US and that is saying something. The best bit is a parody website of their own - God Hates Shrimp - quoting from the same section of Leviticus that supposedly condemns ****.

They really are quite mad!

You will probably be vetted by the FBI and CIA for clicking this link!

I was hopping between that and the Anna Nichol Smith story.

Those Baptists had extreme views and also seemed very passionate about them.

Each to their own and all that, but I don't think picketing funerals is a good thing

It was great that they were exposed in the way they were however Theroux didn't really get any leverage with them.

The only time he really hit a home run was when he was asking the seven year old girl if she knew what the sign she was holding meant. It said "*** Soldiers".

She didn't really know and her mother was very bullying with her in dealing with it. The ten year old boy did not know any better other than to spout well rehearsed statements that he really did not know the meaning of.

In most situations the children would be on the 'at risk' list in most civilised countries. Very difficult to know where the line is drawn between 'religion' and 'hate'. They are listed in most places as a 'hate' group.

Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery was the limpest possible (pardon the pun) justification for saying homosexuality is prohibited in the Bible. What a crock of $hite. I wish he'd pursued that with her.

They had no intellectual answer for any of their beliefs. It was apparant that the Pastor who couldn't work out what 2+3 equalled, was a spiteful hateful angry man who had forced his children from an early age to recite his ludicrous preachings...
They in turn had forced their children from birth to do the same... Such a waste of life

I'd like to see them try that over here.
No really, I'd like to. Preferably at a funeral of a member of the parachute regiment.
They'd last less than 5 minutes. And the coroner would have to use a mop to take the bodies away

I was a little let down that he didn't contact and of the members of the family that had been "cast out". It would have added a lot more to the programme IMHO.

I couldn't work out who he was accusing of eating babies, let alone why educated people (many were lawyers) fell for his BS?

I can only assume they were corporate or prosecution lawyers, I can't imagine them defending anyone given that they hate everybody.

Very very odd. So, let me get this straight (no pun intended ). These nutbars stand around at the funerals of soldiers, some of whom are not gay, with banners inciting hatred of gays?

How is this, apart from the racisim aspect of course, different from standing around at a funeral with signs saying "God hates *******"? That to is inciting hatred, but then it's racisim as well, so perhaps if you're not being racist, it's seen as ok?

How are these people not in prison or dead from someone doing the world a favor and ridding them from this planet.

Digiguide lists it for 5th April but the BBC website says it's on the 4th April BBC2 Northern Ireland

BBC - BBC TWO - WHATS ON

Edit : Digiguide just updated itself and shows the same date/time as the BBC website so April 4, 11:20pm.

No different between this lot believing the word of god and any other person with religious beliefs. They just interpret things in a different way and use extreme measures to get their message out.

found it funny when the kid got hit with the drink. They claim it's gods will when the soldiers are killed but by the same standing isn't that the case when the young lad got hit with the drink?

The 21 year old so wanted a bit of Louis Would have loved it if Gramps had walking in on her just as Louis unloaded his love goo in her face

Michael Moore filmed them from a mini-bus painted pink full of very obviously gay people - that is a film I would like to see. He called it the Sodomobile!

PS I agree about the elder daughter thing - or maybe even all the daughters together
