i ordered H4 hi/lo 8000k kit.

Looks SUPERB!!!!

Can wait to order mine... need to get headlights and spots so 2 kits need to save up for! Wont bother with full beams as I hardly ever use them.

Guys,
How does the kit work with the electrical adjuster for the headlights in a GC8 MY00 UK car? Thinking seriously of getting the H4 Bi-xenon kit but concerned about losing the height adjust etc.

Don't have to worry about losing high adjustment, all your doing is changing the bulb and adding a ballast and wiring, height adjustment is a seperate thing.

I ordered mine weds and they arrived today, suprised how quick they arrived, just need to find time to fit them now.

Quality of the hardware is good, but beware of the lamp base!

The crappy spring clips on my £30,000 Legacy are held in place by the cheapest, flimsiest plastic ever!

When you try to put the lamp in place and reclip you may find that the clips don't fit around the base, meaning that you apply a little too much pressure and both my clip fixings snapped!

DO NOT FORCE THE SPRING CLIPS WHEN PUTTING THE NEW LAMP IN PLACE!!!

I've had to double bubble both my lamps in place as the spring clip fixings have both snapped, the Impreza may be different, but that's what the new Legacy's are like.

Now I need to hope that I can buy the plastic assembly behind the lamp on their own, if not I'll need two new headlamps! ****ing Jap cheapo crap!

Open the spring clips up a bit wider before trying to lock the lamp in place would be my advice, and don't force them!

My only other gripe is with the relay harness, but that might just be the way I interpreted the instructions.

Basically you can fit the kit in two ways,

1 - Fit the relay loom, this loom will then provide power and fuses that would prevent your original loom from frying should a ballast or lamp go short.
It takes longer this way, but it's worth it for peace of mind.

2 - Chuck the relay loom, plug the orignal lamp connector into the ballast, then the ballast to the new lamp. If something goes short you may have your loom melt if the original headlight fuses don't blow first.

My issue was that the relay loom does not plug straight into the lamp wiring.

The grommet has 4 wires, 2 for the lamp and 2 for the original headlamp plug to plug into, when you try and fit the relay loom it will go male to male (not male to female), so you'll have to solder and heat shrink the connections.

Because I didn't envisage needing heat shrink and I couldn't be arsed to drive to work I've wired it as option 2, directly to my original headlight loom. It works fine, but I'll finish the job properly tomorrow as it's easy enough to go from option 2 to option 1.
Are you sure you have that right?,i've just received mine and after looking at the 'green square connector' with the 'two male connectors' on the battery relay loom,i think this may be to connect one side of the original bulb wiring to switch the relay to give the lights power when needed,if this is the case then you can discard the extra two wires in the 4 hole grommet and cut the grommet off as it won't be needed.
The relay loom will plug straight into the ballast and the ballast straight into the bulb.
If anyone has used the relay loom can you explain if this is right.

Looking good.

Anybody know the weight of these units?

Also where can replacement bulbs be purchased from? How much extra for an extra set of bulbs?

Also, do the kits replace the stock wiring completely and have their own fuse/relay?

The weight is minimal and unlikely to affect your 1/4 times

No. The supplied wiring uses only the OE headlight bulb socket for switching hi/lo. It does have it's own fuses and relay.

You can come and take a look if you want, Bedford, as you know

Cheers Gerry.

Does the wiring rely on the std wiring for drawing power then or does it use its own to draw from battery?

It has it's own direct battery connections with in-line fuses. The only connection to the std wiring is one headlight connector for switching the relay for hi/lo

Cheers.

Some budget systems draw power from the original wiring, which is not good.

Not a problem with this kit, fitted mine tonight and the look and light output is excellent.you have two options wiring them in,you can either use the original bulb wiring to the ballast with in my opinion is the lazy man's option or use the battery relay loom which runs direct from battery to ballast with inline fuse, you only connect one side of original bulb wiring to switch the relay for power from battery to ballast which is the best and safest way to connect the kit.

For the price you can't really go wrong.

If you go onto the site you can purchase separate bulbs, ballast or the lot.

Excellent. I meant to change the paypal address, but forgot. No problems if you can't, the other address is home, there's just more chance of someone being in to collect it at the other (work) address.

Thanks for your help

How much are spare bulbs? Can they be purchased in the UK (ie any h4 type HIB bulb)?

Are the units fully sealed and waterproof?

Received my kit today, and the results are good. I've taken the liberty and documented my installation to who ever might be interested.

Also note that these kits come from china so you might get charged duty. Only got charged £7.50, which is not bad since the seller marked the items as a sample.

Bulbs are expensive. How much longer do they last than normal bulbs? Can you use any H4 HID bulbs when the time comes to change them?

Cheers,

Bob

Genuine,I ordered a H7 6000k kit for my daughters Golf, which arrived this week, but the box has a sticker on saying H7 8000k.I can't see any other markings on the bulbs to say what they are,it would be nice to know what they are for sure if I had to replace one at any time.

Cheers

Merv
