I think the main stumbling block for the new Leon is that it feels pretty cheap inside. I suppose it it almost £5k cheaper than the Golf GTi you could forgive it a few little things

Ive just returned from test driving a Gti, was very impressed with the handling..
I wasnt particularly familar with the road we were on and was going
perhaps a little quick around what seemed to be an evertightening
corner, no problems in the Golf though.. It loved the backroads we
were on.
Picked up nicely too, a bit of lag, but thats to be expected... Soon got
itself round to 120 xxph, on a relatively short stretch.
Interior/seats were good too, the particular car had leather, but no other
extras.. could maybe do with Sat-Nav which would improve the looks.
I was surprised to see that the DSG version is quicker to 60, and more
fuel efficient... But I diddnt know that some of them dont have paddles, so
I think I'll just be on the lookout for a manual.
Now I just need to find one in my price range
