At the end of the day, what difference does it make. The game is superb, with a great story and great athmosphere. That's good enough for me

Only on Pc version, this thread was xbox related
Unless I missed something, this thread was Oblivion related. The original post didn't mention a platform, and within the first four posts both PC and 360 versions had been mentioned. It's not my fault if people buy the wrong version...

I dont think the pc version will run on my system
anyways, for those who can't decide which platform to get this may help

Interesting article, I'm more than happy with how it runs on my AMD 2400+ with a Radeon 9700 Pro
Looking at the screenshots, mine looks like it is being placed somewhere between Mid and High spec PC
Not bad for a 2+ year old machine

My Pc is fine, its the Radeon 8700 thats bottlenecking my system. I was going to get the first X series of Radeons, luckily i didnt and a week later about 100 more new models were released. They seem to of calmed down now, maybe its time to upgrade.
Upgrade-itis because of a game.....a bad situation to be in. Paying an extra 125 quid for an extra 4MB memory back in 1995 so I could play Dark Forces on my DX2-66
I even started looking around at newer video cards when I saw the recommended and minimum specs for Oblivion, and then in the end just bought it anyway and took the risk.
Consoles make this easier as the hardware is standard and all the same. When I last looked, you could get a lot of video card for aroun 100 quid now that should see you sorted for some time.
That link really was a good read (although slightly biased towards the 360?). Was good to see the comparison screenshots as well, which is the first time I've actually seen shots with different detail levels published.
Anyone know the reason why the PC game is 25 quid and the XBox 360 version 50? Is it purely market forces (all other games priced similarly)? Seems a gulf between them price wise

I was gonna upgrade so I could play Half Life 2 Coast thingy. My system does need an overhall, generally do it every couple of years or so.
I'd say the £50 360 price is partly down to Microsoft's licensing slice of the pie (console is sold at a loss and the money made back from the games) and partly down to it being a next gen console game so cream the punter for as much as possible.

As a guess, consoles are sold at little more than cost (at least to the OEM), so they make all their money back on games. That, and because they can.

Map with all locations revealed - Its an eye opener for sure

Can someone confirm this - do the obvilion gates randomly open up? I have a gate opening east of imperial city very near the lake which isn't there on the above map.

I did the Dorian money thing at almost the start, was going really well with it as well until I bought a house in Skingrad, now I'm skint!!!!!! Bloody thing cost me over 40,000 gold by the time I had managed to get it kitted out and get a slave!!!
On my 360 w/hd I have had it on several occasions now were my dvd stops spinning and the game still continues. The bonus is the 360 goes quite. Anyone else experience this? One time I continued to play the game for 3 odd hours without problems and the sound of the dvd spinning never did return until I played the game the next time.

I was a big player of EQ for about 4 years and moved onto WoW for about 3 months, I dont have the time to get into real indepth online games, this is perfect for when fps dont hit the mark for some chill out time

)To speed things up, try bribing the guy using the speechcraft mode first. Keep bribing and then chatting until he takes no more cash. THEN kill him when he has full pockets!!!

I did this last night. When I first killed him he had 104 gold (I'm always trying speechcraft - it's one of my majors as a Knight, so I'd had a basic chat with him). Managed to then make the PC bomb completely (warning/hint - do not press the "Take All" button after left-clicking to grab cash for 10 minutes!!!) On my next attempt after reloading I then bribed thim to the max and bumped him off again - Now he has 364 gold! Still umlimited of course.
Make sure you block the doorway between the two rooms in his house. I have only a L3 character so it took a while to slap him down and if he escaped to the streets and alerted the guards, you're history!
Great tip for lazy layabouts. I love the game but am slighty annoyed by the cumbersome inventory method and weight limits (at 350 or so for me) and am constantly juggling items so that I can take the most worthwhile back to the store for selling. I can completely agree with many forum comments about how the interface was designed for the console version and then just copied across. With all this money I can ignore this trivialities concentrate on more fun things like quests and killing

Crikey where is the best place to level up, i seem to be ages without leveling up
Don't know really. Just join the guilds (I did mages, dark brotherhood, fighters, and now currently on thieves) and travel around a lot. Use a lot of your primary skills and you'll start levelling up quickly. I have clocked up 60 odd hours on it as well though

What are your majors? (sorry if you said earlier) Some stuff levels easily, especially blade and blunt - but bow will be rather slower. Allow animals to hit you, it trains armour. Don't mix armour, just use one type, even if both are majors. If you have magic majors, most can be practiced without a target - just fire them off.
But watch out: if you raise levels by practicing non-fighting stuff you will get your *rse kicked by the leveled monsters. I found it hard work until level 7, then increasingly easy after that. I've just completed the MQ, plus the whole of FG and Arena at level 23. I have 100 heavy, 100 blade and 85+ in Block and Blunt. Effectively I am a fighting machine that can take on four or five daedra at once and never need a health potion. That's because three of my majors never get used, so I've leveled my fighting skills faster than the monsters.
As with MW, Oblivion is hard to start, but gets easier.
But I waited until about level 17 before I did the Kvatch gate.

My Son played this for around 6 months.. notched up around 60 continuous hours! Level 60. Excited again now with the new levels and thingymabobs.. he's quite a nifty player and makes loads of money. Hope this spills into his wroking life to keep me in the way I've become accustomed

I spent 81 hours on ff7 and 93 hours onn ff8 so god knows what this game is going to do to me
. I think 95% of the reason my first girlfriend gave for dumping me spending every living hour on ff7
