Never bother looking at the price really, if it looks good, I try it on, if it fits then it's a sale.
Usually get NEXT stuff though as they have good selection of modern styles I like.
If I go to House of Fraser I come out broke

Most of my shoes are made by Churchs (i get a good deal), they offer a range of width fittings, i have slightly wide feet so this helps withj comfort. They do cost a fair bit but are comfortable and last forever, otherwise i get from the likes of Next if i want a pair to last a year

Top tip for you shoes folk....
If you're not wearing your shoes, ALWAYS keep them in shoe trees. It'll make them keep their shape and prevent creasing. Plus, the shoe tree will outlast your shoes (no matter what brand) so a set for 15-20 quid WILL last a lifetime.

Point 1 - never, EVER, EEEVVVVEEERRRR buy anything that isn't leather. I did it for the first time recently because I really liked the shoes - BIG mistake. They made my feet stink like old cheese and gave me a nasty dose of athlete's foot.
Back into leather ones again now - no pong and feet improving rapidly!
Point 2 - buy from someone known and established for making the product - for example - buy shoes from shoemakers, watches from watch makers etc etc. Poncy designer names tend to be over priced rubbish - bought a pair of Bally shoes once when I was young easily impressed...

Agree with the leather thing, I made the mistake of buying some non-leather cheapo boots once and they were awful.
I don't really buy shoes, just boots, boots, boots and more boots, then sandals in the summer. I like the cheap stuff (Next etc) because generally I only wear a pair once or twice. Mostly they end up in my wardrobe with my collection of unused handbags

Buy my shoes from Jones Boot makers, they have a store in leeds, average price is prob £100 roughly but i've had two pairs and each pair has lasted for about 2 years each with daily wear.

Oliver Sweeney
Grenson
Loakes
Church

All excellent shoes - real leather looks after your feet better. Cheap plastic shoes need to come with a steady supply of shoe fresehener and Lamisil.
Make sure that if they get wet you dry them properly and shoe trees will help them keep their shape well.
Best pair of shoes I have ever owned were a pair of Grenson Brogues I had for ten years - resoled each year by Grenson and they only got better and better.
Church do a classic brogue made out of horse leather. Very expensive but they will easily last thirty years or more if cared for and resoled properly by the factory.

Noticed my Loakes have had the soles changed. No longer leather soles. Some sort of rubber sole called 'Dainite'.
Mind you, still great shoes, still fresh feet and not so slippy in the winter!I just thought a leather sole helped with the old 'breathing' of the feet?
