done a bit today
Finished painting the engine
Standard subaru water pump, ready to go on.
Lateral sump opened up, ready for a quick trial fitting
The baffle of the sump
Water pump in place, with sealant between face of pump and the block.
RCMS oil pump raedy for fitting
Pump fitted in similar manner to water pump. Also, new oil seal installed.
Dry fit of the sump. Pretty impressed!

Some stuff from Halfords VHT Aluminium effect. Think i put too many coats on block, oh well.
Ron, headers will be going on last, but before the engine goes in, its a lot easier, especially with 3 bolt headers. Aiming to do a full mock up, whilst on the engine stand, including down pipe, wastegate and screamer.

The car is staying in full trim this year, for as long as i can, including leaving the dog guard in.
Will try take a couple more pics later. Progress is a little slower than i hoped, because i am still awaiting some bits, so just doing bits i can think of doing without affecting progress.
Dropped some stuff off yesterday for blasting clean, tried the nitromors but didnt have the patience. Also getting some stuff zinc plated.
Then need to collate everything that needs powder coating, and get that done

Just as a thought...don't you feel that by painting the block and heads you are in some way adding additional insulation and thus reducing the cooling efficiency?

Andy Painting the block black always seemed a little odd to me, very gard to spot any sort of leak going on, especially oil.
Then again maybe you dont want to know

If anything you will spot any leaks sooner on a nice clean painted engine.
I did think about the weight gain Tim A painted matt black engine will emit more heat than an unpainted (or painted) silver one.

In theory it should andy, but that is assuming perfect heat transfer from the aluminium to the paint to the air.
Now; take a bare aluminium vessel and fill it with a hot fluid then compare the measured fluid temperature against the outside surface temperature of the vessel, and time how long it takes to drop say 10 degrees. Repeat this with the same vessel that is painted in a colour of your choice. The painted vessel will loose heat more slowly...where's Pat, he could come up with the full scientific ecplaination for this...in detail

It really was for aesthetics, and simplicity of seeing things.
Quite wierdly, the Block has dried (to a fasion) in a matt colour, whereas the heads have dried shiny. Both were cleaned with thinners before hand. I just hope the block sorts itself out once it heats up.
I hated the way my 2.0l towards the end, and my 2.5 looked **** when you opened the bonnet. I dont want that to happen this time.
No work done today, helped someone change a clutch.
Steven
ps Tim, your waffling again

LOL My wife would say i had gone too far moving the engine into the house
Looks tidy.
Some people say why? or Whats the point?
I honestly cant answer them, other than it looking good, as well as it going good.
