Dude, you just need to sell your car.. I hear you can get good deals on Rovers these days!

For the record including buying my '02 WRX new, I have about 15k into a mid 12 second WRX.

yeah but I bet you paid bloody U.S prices

don't get me wrong I love the car and wouldn't swap for anything under 40k but on the other hand don't think the newage wrx is what a subaru is all about.

In my opinion a standard WRX (bug-eye, blob-eye - makes no difference) is a quickish car but nothing special really in the affordable performance car arena these days. Problem is that so many other cars can give it a run for it's money when rolling. Cupra R's, Clio Cups, remapped VRS's, Civic Type R's and so on.
The best thing about the WRX is that it is operating so well within it's capabilities. If you bought a WRX you should understand the importance of 4WD. I bought my WRX always knowing I would be modifying it - and it is easy to extract power from these cars without spending a fortune. FWD cars cannot be tuned to 260-270bhp and retain the ability to put that power down as competently. There are few better base cars to buy for someone prepared to do a bit of tinkering.
Also regarding sideways action in a WRX. Yes as standard they do understeer heavily but this is safe and predictable. Your less likely to smash your car up with this setup. Sensible compromise to make for factory spec. Get a set of Eibach' and a Rear Anti-Roll bar and you will be able to enjoy controllable sideways action fairly easily.

Of course I did!
I dont think Subaru knows what the impreza is about these days. I swear if the new one is that ugly concept hatch thingy... I will buy an EVO!

I have Prodrive springs and Whiteline 3 way rear sway and I still dont try to drift my scoob. IMO drifting a scoob is like watching 10 clowns stuff themselves into a mini.. funny yes, but silly none the less.

You dont have to go all out 400-500bhp for a fast car, Ive had my 04 WRX for a year now from standard to slightly modified, and its certainly quick as a road car, its only when you do Quarter miles and trackdays that you realsie there are other fast cars out there, But on the public roads, Ive never come across a car that I can say that was really really fast.

It you planned on spending 10k why not buy an STI. A better base to work from initially with stronger internals. It wouldnt be long before you reached the reliable limit when modding a WRX to the level you obviously want. Mind you with 10k to spend you could easily replace the gearbox etc but thats allready done for you with an STI therfore you could go even further on your 10k.
End of the day i wish i had 10k to spend on my WRX. Im limited to buying used parts of EBAY. Still fun though.

doh .. just what happened to me , plus the fact there was no STI's avaliable when I bought my wrx

An STi equivalent of mine was about 3 grand more at the time I bought. Regardless of which version I got it was always going to end up lowered with the obligatory de-cat exhaust. Insuring a modified STi at the time was untenable.
I'm more than happy with my lowly WRX. With Eibach's, performance pads and discs, the exhaust etc it's not that slow
. With a remap should easily keep up with standard STi's and still retain it's slightly lower running costs. On the whole I am happy with my choice, but still getting the big-wing fitted asap though.
