A 944 Turbo (a.k.a the car for ******* who cant afford a 911) is not that much faster, so again, would u call that SLOW?
If that is the only cars u have driven other than the WRX then u are not even close to being in a position to call them slow
Now once u have driven a F1 car on a regular bases i might then think u are in a position to class ANY of these cars as SLOW
Actually a clio cup is slower to 100 than a standard WRX. 15.7 as opposed to 17.7 secs for the clio. Check back of EVO mag for these figures yourself. So in no circumstances can a WRX be called slow when comparing it with a clio cup.

interesting thread, glad I posted it. Perhaps the forum should have a category 'cars I killed today' - this would allow us to share tales of the road where heroically overcome the oppression of said Pug 205 and Clio Sardine cans, what do you think mods

Thing is how much did he spend on the mods?
Any car can be fast with enough spent on it.
Not that I am against the newage scoobs just giving an opinion.

This is very true!! when i went to max power a few years ago, they had a skyline with 1000bhp but had spent 120k on it. (not that there slow anyway!)

anyway, i probly have the slowest ''wrx'' in the country, seeing as its only a 1.8 gl!!(but im only just turned 20 with 3 points an 0 no claims!)! So stop bickering about who's car is faster!! you would all kick my ****!!!

sorry guys a std bugeye is not a fast car ( my own experience)

wait till you get wiped out by a fast bike or 911 gt2 etc now they are fast

now after spending stupid money to make the car handle like it should, then making it stop like it should and pushing through 320 bhp it starts to feel fast but only fast comparing it to a french shopping trolly, and im sure a french shopping trolly with a good driver could still keep up with me

trouble with the scoobs is they don't get fun till you are breaking the law or sliding places you shouldn't be sliding

I remember the good old days of the drives to Wales in the cooper s getting out of the car thinking god that was fun............. now I stop he car switch off all the lights and check to see no coppers have been trying to catch me up thinking why oh why do I have to do those stupid speeds

but after all this I sure would love a 2.5 with 400 lbs .. more over time needed

WRX Rich, come on mate, that argument is just daft: how many cars are quicker than a proper sports bike and how much does a GT2 cost. A GT2 is not fast compared to an F1 car- it's all relative.

A WRX is a perfectly good benchmark for what should be considered fast on the road and attainable with a mere mortal's salary.

May I just respectfully suggest to the thread that few drivers -myself included- are skilled enough to extract the maximum from a std WRX let alone one with 400bhp! So before we start saying this is slow and that's slow, maybe we should look in the mirror.

[QUOTE=New_scooby_04]I'm a realist. I don't think the Scooby is the fastest car on the road and accept that there are too many factors -including those pertaining to safety- to provide a comprehensive and accurate assessment of a car's performance on the road.

One thing, however, is obvious.

Anyone who says a Scooby is slow is

a) A professional motorsport driver
b) A supercar owner
c) A moron
d) All of the above

They are quick cars, just not the quickest by the margin they used to enjoy at the 20k price point. That does NOT mean they are slow!

Like your good self I too was of the same opinion. But, post re-map and filter change . Have now had one or two "fun trips" one a Boxster on A4059 and a 225 Megane on the A40 ( both fine Welsh roads regularly used by TG and 5th). Yep your right not supercar, but NOT slow either.

Its a good base to build on mate. Hopefully in a few years when your points are gone you can look at a tubby.

U mention that the WRX is "not fast", well my point was that it is not SLOW. As i said earlier, pretty much any car over 150bhp is out of the slow catagory.

Its just the way things progress. As a performance platform gets older, normal cars catch up. Super cars from 10 years ago get beat by modern performance cars, 10 year old performance get beat by modern 'normal' cars. 5 years ago did anyone forsee a 245hp Neon?

Oh and Rich, if you bought your scooby for some sideways action on tarmac.... you bought the wrong car. I suggest a Silvia or GTS-T skyline. IMO anyone that trys to drift a WRX (the understeer king) is just retarded.

Indeed, and its in this respect that the Scooby shows just how good it was and still is. A 10yr old WRX would make the current crop of hot hatches blush! Ditto for A 5 year old turbo 2000. The margin of its superiority may have been eroded but the key point is it's still up there with the best of them 5-10 years on. Respect is due!

I don't think there is a current hot hatch that can live with the mid five std.. Turbo 2000's 0-60 time or significantly beat its 30-70 time.

I didnt buy the car for side ways action... did I say that sorry ..use in angor it does slip and slide but thats cause I can't drive for **** and go in to fast to oftern

Im sorry but I have hammered propper sports cars and I have had a 182 keep up with me a good driver is worth more than 100bhp... Im sure Davyboy can show plenty of scoobs being shown how to do it in his clio or his mates 205

davyboy how about hosting the wet trackday vid from last year

is it just me who thinks a sports car need more than 220bhp in a saloon come on guys there are desiels out there that we can't loose

I love my Subaru but as std its no rocket ship spend another 10k and it can be quick - and im not just talking about bhp

You dont need £10k to make a WRX quick, Ive just spent maybe £4k, for 308bhp and 6-pot AP's and a little tweak of the suspension.

You dont have to go all out 400-500bhp for a fast car, Ive had my 04 WRX for a year now from standard to slightly modified, and its certainly quick as a road car, its only when you do Quarter miles and trackdays that you realsie there are other fast cars out there, But on the public roads, Ive never come across a car that I can say that was really really fast.

How slow is your car?? my '02 WRX (3 days old) ran a 14.3 @ 94.7mph in the 1/4 at Richmond Dragway back home. I'd say thats pretty good for a car that only has 227hp standard.

I've come from a clio 182 to a Bugeye WRX and I do agree that it feels slower than the clio but it probably isn't. They bring their power across differently. The clios very snappy were as the WRX is sluggish then makes up for it when the turbo spins. Clios more fun but the WRX is definately a better all rounder!!

that's weird , cos when i did the opposite i felt like the bugeye felt quicker , the trouble i found with the clio was that nothing happened until 4500 rpm , i grant you it took off but below that , hmmmmm !!

Yeah mine did feel a bit like that. I had a superchip, BMC induction Kit and a remus exhaust. Think it gave me an extra 20 BHP. Must of helped it a little. Did you find it a bit skippy in the wet!! I HATE torque steer. Thats why I love the WRX!!

Well said that man i love the allround handling you get with the wrx , torque steer is always a down point , i must say anybody who thinks the wrx is a slow car must be of the opinion of a F1 driver not your average joe bloggs who loves a fantastic machine
