Cool Another Ian Shipton WRX v-ltd here

Sorry boys, too much work and not enough play made Willo miss this thread - Have chatted to JT before but I'm running a v6 WRX RA V-Ltd with ECUTEK, old scoobysport from Downpipe back, tidied headers, walbro, FPR from Mark @ Lateral, modified oil pump, 18" speedline lite's and some Road and Track Ohlins on custom springs. My wife loves this car and any mention of sale by me leads to death threats...... from her

I'm going through the Spec C or more mods phase at the moment, would love to get a solid 400BHP out of the RA but the Spec C is so quick as standard.... See what I mean. Will happily meet up with anyone who is within 100 miles of London (hell for a good sized group would happily go much further), so where is everybody?? And is it £10k on mods or trade-in and £10k on a Spec C (must be old shape as still unsure on the new plane wing shape)

Hopefully my non-Sti can be allowed entry to this hallowed space

Willo

Version 4 STi RA V-Ltd, completely stock standard (barring the seats - they don't come with Recaros as standard, do they? ). I have a list of potential modifications as long as my arm, but I don't honestly know where to start. Anyone got any suggestions? I've been toying with the idea of upgrading the brakes (possibly just pads, hoses etc.), as well as having polyurethane bushes fitted - happy enough with what the engine has to offer (for now at least ).

Hi WUZ / G4ZZA / Willo,

Was wondering if you can do me a favour sometime and let me know what (test) lights illuminate when you turn your key to position 2, before starting the engine. I'm missing the airbag light and rad level light (think that is what it is) that I see on the left hand side on my STI4 and want to make sure that this is normal for the STI6 Type RA or whether I should investigate a possible fault!

Cheers,

Steve

Steve - no such thing as a rad level light on the RA. You may be getting confused with the LOW LEVEL indicator on the btm left of the dash that comes on when the WATERSPRAY is low. All JDM cars with WATERSPRAY have that but it only lights up when it is empty.

Thanks Russell.

I've not seen the low waterspray level light on - should that come on in 'test' mode when you turn the key to position 2 with the engine off? However, I don't think I'm confusing it with that one since it is a light that I get on my STI4 that I don't see on the STI6 RA, and my STI4 doesn't have a waterspray. On the RA do you only see check lights in the centre panel beneath and in the middle of the speedo/tacho?

Thanks again for your help. There aren't many STI6 Type RA's out there to compare to!

Steve - It's only the bottom group of lights that illuminate on start up, Check Engine comes on for a second or two, the others (Hand Brake, Oil, Seat belt, Battery) all go out on starting. My I/C Spray light is located at the top but only comes on when water level is low, not on starting... Hope this helps...

Gazza...

Edired to say my I/C Spray light is actually at the bottom left not the top... Doh...

I don't get the 'Airbag' light on the STI6 RA, circled in green, but am not too fussed about that one. Of more concern to me is the 'rad low' (?) light circled in red, which you can see below on the STI6 RA doesn't seem to show when in check mode. Is that the same as you see (or rather don't see) and I'll stop worrying about it!?!?!

Thanks again,

Stevie b..............CHILL OUT M8!

The light that you think is a "rad-low" indicator is actually the "cat-on-fire" light that you got with the STI V3 and V4 cars. It is linked to an EGT probe located at the bottom of the Downpipe on V3 and V4 STi's and warned you if the temps going through the Downpipe were too high and damage to the catalytic convertor in the Downpipe could take place.

This EGT sensor DOES NOT EXIST on the V6 STi's.

And that is why you do not see it on your V6 dash.

Happy now?

Fantastic. Very happy. The cats are leaning against a wall in the corner of the garage so not much chance of them catching fire. Thanks for your help and setting my mind at ease.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi guys

Just bought my96 Version 2 Type RA Sti V Limited (can't remember the number as it's currently at the dealers having a check-up).

Whoever owned it before in Japan has tinted out the rear windows and removed all the badges - except the xxx/555 - from the rear/sides.

Was wondering if the tint is std and what badges should sit on the car as I would like to return the car to original spec.

Thanks, Dave

Engine.....

Rebuild at Special Scooby's comprising: new crank, conrods, version 9 shells, modified main bearings, Roger Clark modified oil pump, cambelt, seals etc.

Also just having a stainless up-pipe fitted today and a Silicone turbo inlet pipe is on it's way over from Japan.

Suspension....

Whiteline 22mm adjustable Anti-Roll Bar, Whiteline Solid Droplinks, KYB AGX Adjustable Suspension.

Other than that and a Magnex exhaust, the car is standard. I'm happy with the way it looks now, but may facelift the front over the coming months.
