ive been on here since 2005 and havent posted many posts only when i need help or helping someone else with the best advice i have

so why does it take a post like this to get help
or do you need a good post count to get noticed i which case i can reply to every post on here like others do

now the question i have posted in technical which was not replyed to by anyone was

my06 2.5 sti uk modded had a cel light come on twice took it to subaru bunged my man there a tenner and he put it on the machine to get code

p0031 ho2s heater control circiut low bank1 sensor1

the light has now gone off again is this a problem to worry about ????
i belive its the oxygen sensor or lamda ??

advice please

the reason why you might experiance "troubles"
very few people on this site have a clue what they are talking about, most just repeat what somebody else has said rather then something they have personally experianced, a while back you could search the site and get some decent info, but now you cant unless you pay, best bet is to google the fault codes IMO

Modded = decat/sports cat? It's quite normal for the CEL to come on, especially on the 06 2.5ltr when decatted and not remapped. They are prone to over boost.

Looking at the ammount of work thats been done to your car, i'd say the map might need a tweak with the colder weather, ive had to get mine looked at as the cel light has been flashing a little under fall load, ive been putting in octane booster and it went away so knew the map just needed alittle tweak

Have a chat with the person who mapped it and get there advice

I appreciate you're asking for advice, but to be honest, I'd have thought "your man" at the dealer could have answered your questions as soon as he knew the fault code - especially regarding the price to put right.

Best bet, as mentioned, would be to give the fault code to the company that modded your car and take their expert advice - they will know the set up of your car better than any of us.

i will second this mate, i have only just came on to this web site/forum and only put up a few posts, but the posts i have put up, not many people have replied to it, i used to have a 300zx, you put something up on that forum and u have a good answer within about 20 mins. i feel that the bloke what said there isnt many people on here that know what there on about seems about right to me at the moment, i could be wrong though..... I have asked a few questions about my wagon and not one of them have been answered, that doesnt show a good forum to me. sorry if this offends anyone, but i go on alot of forums and this is by far one of the worst for advice and help.

One thing i find, because the scooby is far more reliable than say french cars that ive owned the owners are far less likely to tinker so will happily put them in a garage to sort.

Youre better asking in Technical. As Mick has said: many people here know nowt and only repeat what theyve heard (and possibly not understood). In my experience youre far more likely to i) receive a reply in Technical and: ii) receive worthwhile advice. It is also fair to say that the quality of help that youll receive is proportional to the amount of information that you provide.

I cant help you with your problem but I do think that unless some people can slate or argue with your post then it will not get a response as like others have said alot of people on here know **** all about the cars my knowedge is limited and I no longer own a scooby, I don't think it is meant in any bad way so don't take it personally.

There is a point here... ask general advice about a subaru and a lot of owners can give you advice and share their experiences... ask a specific technical question and there are only a handful of mechanics on here who can help...

You are far better taking your car to an expert than asking a vague question on an owners internet forum IMHO

Huge number of modifications there and you're unlikely to find someone here with the exact same setup, so I agree with others, talk to the people who modded your engine.

The reason why you dont get a reply because you dont bother searching. Theres 70,000 members and im sure every single problem has been covered 100's of times.
The information is there, its upto you to find it. You cant expect to be spoon fed all your life.
This forum is for grown ups, not kids.

Most people won't look in 'technical' in here unless they've got a problem themselves they're searching for an answer for... hence the lack of response. It's not that we're stand-offish, or ignorant, just that your question didn't get much of a viewing.

I try very hard to answer in sections I feel I know a bit about. Some sections I know very little about so I steer clear. I read the original problem here, and had no answer of value.

Key to this site is to use it properly to your advantage.

Choose the right section, and add all the info you can that you feel is relavent.

This helps solve the prob, but encourages 'experts' to respond well.
There ARE some absolute experts on Snet, you need to find them and work to allow them to find/help you.

As to your problem? Best advice on here is to take it back to your tuner if you can.(IMHO)

Oh how this site has changed on the helping front

I used to spend hours helping people out years ago. Unfortunately you rarely get any thanks for it. A lot of the time its the same question over and over again (what dump valve / what's the best intake )

In this case, id say the site has prob been slow over Christmas, lack of knowledge on your specific OBD code, and maybe not an accurate enough description in your post. But don't get annoyed about it.

You have a fault coming from one of the lambda sensors and it looks like the primary one. Your car is either running lean on closed loop lambda control or its got a wiring issue.

Only bit that confuses me is that I didn't think the ECU used the sensor on WOT and that's the only bit that is mapped, the closed loop is left alone. Unless its a standalone ECU, which its not becuase you have a CEL and that implies the OEM one is being used. It could be (depedning on your breathing mods) that it genuinely is running lean on closed loop.

Subaru can plug in their monitor and look at the voltage from it - unfortunately they tend not to have the knowledge to diagnose anything so it may be better to go to an indipendant specialist. Where are you from and who mapped it?

I'd suspect its running lean.

I'm a little puzzled that having a car with such a high HP, you're not more in tune with how the car works and how to trouble shoot problems?
I trust you haven't just bought a new car and then waved a large wad at a tuner without knowing what you are getting into?

Your current HP may mean that you do have (hopefully) only little niggles that crop up from time to time.

Anyway, the fault is due to the front O2 heater not getting to the correct temp either due to being faulty, the connector being loose or the wiring damaged.
Rather than wait for the tuner to get back to you, check that the connector is fully pushed home or shine a torch down the side of the engine and see if the wiring is loose and touching any part of the up-pipe where it can melt.
If you have time & a ramp then drop the undertray and have a good look at the sensor to make sure it is fully tightened or that the wiring on the back of it isn't chaffed or cut.
Next step to check resistance of earth and also what signal the ECU is getting.

If the heater is dying then I think the dealer price is £250? Maybe cheaper from API/RCM etc.
