Is that (in general) as discplinary offence?
Yes - I used to work for a large pharmaceutical company (over 10 years ago now) when my mother died from cancer. A manager told me on my return that I was going to be docked wages as I hadn't completed 6 months since joining the co. (Had been there 5 1/2 months) They also said that they hoped I would end up on the street when my father died.

The manager ended up leaving around 4 months later after it came to the notice of HR what had been said.

Hope I meet him again one day
