Good idea or bad?

Here are a few more pics I missed out..
I couldn't wait to clean the car so tried cleaning a few areas but realised I was a mosquito magnet over there in the evening and the daytime was just too hot to put any water on the car as it would just dry off!
These were a few pics of things I knew I would need to replace or fix when I got it over here, sidelight was broken as I think someone tried to steal this as it was sat up along with the headlight washers, fogs were also missing the glass. All these parts I have bought already, some being new.
Engine pic......Detailers anyone!! Bonnet pull was seized..
It was parked in this spot for a number of years as the initially it was parked under a tree with a car cover but they were worried the tree might fall from the strong winds on it so moved it.
Exhaust obviously was one of the first things that needed replacing for obvious reasons..
Underside.......read up that the underside usually rusts where the petrol tank strap is so with the climate it looks fairly good minus the exhaust...
I'll update with more pics as soon as I can

This would be lAn absolute dream come true for me, to get a unloved "barn car" and bring it back from the brink.
Total respect to you mate hope it goes all to plan. Superb car to be doing it too as well.

My old school friend and I used to love playing about with Ford engines and Cossie bits when we were lads. We learned a very great deal about building powerful engines and the satisfaction we got from that was outstanding.

Hmmm scrubbed up nicely.
Respect for getting stuck in to that job !
dunx
P.S. Car magazine still reckoned a classic Scooby turbo wagon was quicker round their Irish test route

What a labour of love and fair play.Thought about getting any of the Classic Ford mags involved?
Would make a great long term mag feature and it may part fund the restoration project-just a thought!

Hey guys I haven't forgotten, been quite busy and away on business trips before it grinded to a halt with busting my leg.
Updates weren't worth really doing before as the car was in the body shop but here are some updates to follow, going to copy and paste from the ford forum.

Well..that's it for photos for now, phone went dead on battery after being stuck in Friday traffic.
I've tried to clean her up so will update with photo's I took using my mums iPad.
over the moon...........
Had some jaw droppers as we drove past busy areas....overheard someone say to his wife......oh my blood god.........I can't believe it......

Well had nearly a full day cleaning the car, and can't remember scrubbing so much dirt in my life............. I am exhausted but I've fought the exhaustion to take pics and thought i'd upload them now before a much needed bath.
The inside of the door looks like this, but the door cards will have to wait for the interior clean tomorrow...
The interior:
But lucky I have some goodies for her when she's ready...
How she started in the day:
Bought this and thought i'd let it off inside to get rid of any smells
So as my odor bomb got to work I started to tackle the dirt with a LOT of elbow grease....
The front...these stains were much more harder to get off....that or I ran out of energy doing wax on and wax off...wax on and wax off.....
Progress!!!!
Took the plate off..
Tried to clean the front but it's more then likely going to need a respray since some monkey tried to steal the headlight washers...
Result of the back.. pretty pleased with the results...
The rear bumper on the passenger side has a michelin man that covered a scuff on the bumper..
Off went the nasty decals
That's it for today folks...

Today's Pics..
Rear drivers interior
Before
After
Rear Passenger side interior
Difference from the front and rear after a clean.
Front cleaned ish
Vacuumed the boot which came up really nice, in fact newer then my E90 BMW... pics to follow.
Plan is to strip the interior later and get them properly tidied up.
Bought a new battery and noticed couldn't hear the fuel pump so that would need replacing possibly. Electrics and fan blowers were a bit stiff.
All the pedals seemed really stiff so possibly need to change the cabling or look into hydraulics ..??
Been a long day but these things need time...

Hmm I did miss out on a few updates! Haha to waiting another 8 years!!
Here's a pic of the exhaust....
otherwise underneath seems very good.
UPDATE
Well i've been a busy boy....
I've stripped out the interior including roof lining and carpet to have a good look at the shell. Surprisingly it's very good. Have a leak somewhere so after buying the list below I think it's not from a aftermarket wiring from the engine bay for a amp....
Went to RS breakers in Cosham and managed to pick up a load of little bits..
Sunroof
headlining
rear numberplate light
wiper motor (other one just looked rusty)
Sunroof motor (not sure if this is seized but since I was there anyway)
Turbo headshield
Seals for the doors and boot
throttle body (Also seized so needed a replacement)
Distributor (Old one needed a new rotor arm but thought i'd replace anyway)
front seat belts (plastics had split on the old ones, guessing from the heat)
As for new parts:
Sidelights
cambelt kit with tensioner
oil filter
fuel filter
fuel pump
ford badge
new genuine carpet mats
spark plugs
spark leads
Bits I need in future:
carpet if the old one doesn't clean up
Anyway for the bad news...turbo was seized so i'm looking to get it reconditioned.
Car was booked in for my friends garage and his body shop but decided to get the engine out now since the respray and easier access to replacing parts that need doing on it.
This was the state of the aircon belt...
Some extra bits
The list seems never ending right now but hopefully will all be worth it in the end.

Next UPDATE:
Well here are the latest pics, I was busy and had to go for a business trip abroad for a month so told the guys at the bodyshop no rush as I wanted it spot on. The guy along with another ford enthusiast who had done the welding said the car was in a lot better shape then they had imagined but from where it was sat up some welding obviously needed to be sorted but had it been in the UK climate and sat up would of been a rust pile.
Anyway here are some photos taken of the car but I'm sure he has a lot more photos of the car as i've asked of him.
Hopefully should will be finished shortly, as of now it has had the engine bay i believe done as my friend had popped over to the body shop and said it's looking very good.
Oh and turbo came back looking like new from universal turbos ...

Well here are some photos off the lovely guy Barry who is doing the work, my other friend has most of the photos but he's on holiday so these will have to make do for now.
Here's how she arrived to Barry, he was in quite a shock but said surprisingly how good the body was for this age, but with it being stood up rust had inevitably been built up with leaves etc.
Get Ready!
Old metal cut out along with old wings as the bottom had rust
Naked!!
Outer sills had rust and was cut
Another area in the engine bay where leaves had left it moist and any sign of rust removed.
Looking quite sad for itself…..
Had to order another battery tray and remove the old, was glad to see this all gone, but dash and everything else was removed too.
New wings aligned and welded back in
Along with the battery tray
The car has been with them for 9 months+ so it's taken time and photos are missing so i'll update them in as soon as I receive them to give you guys no holes in the diary of my car.
Time for some exciting stuff
Doors and bumpers!
Sideskirts
Rear bumper
The last post had the car primed
This job is not cheap at all….. everyone has a love hate relationship with the cossie as it's been a while but it's getting there..

Looking good.
My cousin did a restoration of his Escort Cossie: http://www.sportingfords.com/showthread.php?tid=3045 . So I'm well aware of the work involved even with a seemingly tidy one....I know full well where Escorts rust...I used to own a MK5 XR3. ...I got rid of it when the fuel filler surround started to rot
