Thanks for the kind words guys!

Simon K - Initially car wasn't too much but importing it over was much more then I had ever imagined!

classic Subaru Si - Unless someone advertised it for me? lol...Never put it up for sale, it only arrived last week!

dpb - Yup the guys at the warehouse were searching for it all day!

Ste RB5138 - Sat up for 13 years!

SirFozzalot - Exactly what I thought so had to rescue it before it was too late!

A long time coming as you can see from when this thread was started! Car only arrived last week but I'm sure to update the progress just I haven't had any time recently with family visiting.

Awesome car and great story. I can't wait to see more of it. I was about 7 when the Escort RS Cosworth came out and at the time my dad had a 1.6 white Escort LX. One day on the way to school I saw a white Cossie (I've since discovered who the owner was and know him now!) and thought 'that's dads car...but cool' and I've loved cars ever since. I will buy a Cossie one day when funds permit as it is the car that made me love cars!

Nice to see a classic being restored. How much does it cost, roughly to ship? Do you have to pay any thing to customs when you import?

Today's Pics..

Rear drivers interior
Before

After

Rear Passenger side interior

Difference from the front and rear after a clean.

Front cleaned ish

Vacuumed the boot which came up really nice, in fact newer then my E90 BMW... pics to follow.

Plan is to strip the interior later and get them properly tidied up.

Bought a new battery to test for electrics and noticed couldn't hear the fuel pump so that would need replacing possibly. Electrics and fan blowers were a bit stiff.

All the pedals seemed really stiff so possibly need to change the cabling or look into hydraulics ..??

Been a long day but these things need time...

Shipping was quite a bit, the price changes I think monthly and I was going to put more things in the container to make it worthwhile but didnt get the chance as dates were wrong. It also meant the price went up by another £700 above the initial cost I had for quote the month earlier. Have to pay port costs in Hong Kong and over here, also as its a container for a car it is classified as dangerous so it's different.

Didn't want to work out the cost in the end but pretty sure I could of paid for a good condition P1 just for importing it. Then again some more costs were included in this which meant new tyres fitted, recovery trucks which was called out on three occasions in HK, surprisingly no one wanted to do it as the guy they eventually got took ages to sort out as it meant removing wheels that hasn't been off for so long then getting new tyres on them and then returning change the other two. Also of course recovery from port to mine in the UK too.

A lot of costs involved in the end but hopefully in the end it will be worth it.

Usually get a phone call a week earlier before a container arrives and they work out the costs for customs and fees. Also car had to have a X-ray which was further cost.

The pink towel in the earlier photos was a little bit gay.

Very impressed, I have to say the interior is in far better condition than I would have expected

Personally I would do a full fluid change, oils, hydraulics, coolant, etc, just for piece of mind.

This tbh, then assuming it starts/runs would probably put new brake pads on all round and maybe do the belts as well. Should end up with a nice cossie at the end though by the looks of it.

Why was the car lay'ed up in the first place?
Great work by the way. I would do complete fluid change and spark plugs. Check or replace all belts and hoses. Pull out and clean or replace all fuses if there corroded and clean out all electrical connectors you can get to.

Jods - That's why I used it :P

CrispDuck - Yup All fluids and all the rest of the malarky will be changed

Neil - As above I will get the obvious bits changed and then look into what else needs changing.

47NAT - Did take a big deep breath sending it over, couldn't wait for it to be cleaned up but it's all the mechanical bits that really need sorting before I can MOT and register the car.

RobsyUK - Thanks, will all these subscriptions I'm sure to try my best with updating this thread Gems wise I have researched a few cossie's that have been sent over from HK but they are rare too over there with most people buying parts from the UK to ship back. As for other cars I've seen plenty of JDM cars left around that would fetch not bad money over here but by the time you ship them it would not really be worth it. I do remember going to salvage yards back then and It was filled with scooby's, evo's, skylines etc.

yabbadoo4- I'll sure update with pics with progress but so far I've not touched it much as i've been really busy with family that are visiting which is a shame and a new business venture.

Worlasshasansti - Let's hope so, bringing this thread back from the dead from 2005 is really something in itself as I couldn't make this up

thesyn - Got to check but it's under or nearabouts 30k as I need to convert it from km which isn't at all bad for a 20 year old classic.

chopperman - The guy went off to Canada so his brother was left with it and he found it too expensive to run as he had another car, left it and thought he'd keep it but only a minority keep classics over there, most people prefer newer cars. Have the sparks already with a few other bits I also have on order, belts and hoses will obviously be changed but thanks all the same
