Good idea or bad?

Good idea or bad?
My friend has a Escort Cosworth in Hong Kong which has been neglected somewhat, it's been in the same spot for a number of years, he's letting it go next to nothing so would it be a good idea to importing it over here or what kind of problems could i face with the car being left for so long in the sun? It's very low mileage and is in excellent condition, just seems such a waste. The car is totally standard which is very rare with leather interior.
I imagine getting parts for them will be hard so what costly parts would i be looking for?

it's better than being left in the rain ? cossie's go for good money if there in good condition , got to be worth bringing it over if it's going for next to nothing , but what part's do you want and why ???

If it's been left outside exposed to sunlight, the leather, and probably the dash wil be fooked, but mechanically it should have come to no harm.

How long has it been standing exactly? If its a very long time without moving then there are numerous things to check.
Seized Handbrake
Flatspotted tyres
Shagged springs and dampers
Perished fluids, oil, petrol, brake etc
Bad paintwork
I think the best way would be to see how much it would cost to buy the car and import it over here including all the relevant documents and balance that against what the car would fetch in parts.
At least then if the worst thing happens you can break sell the bits and not lose money

Thought i'd resurrect this old thread and let you guys know 8 years on and I finally done it....
As it was...
First things first I sorted out the tyres..
Bonnet was seized shut but finally got it open...
Some more pics as I took a trip out to Asia...
Sure filth...
Trip to container...
In its short term home
Arriving at from docks after X-ray...

Good for you bringing it back, hate to see cars go to waste like that.
Being right hand drive is a big bonus as well.
How long was it standing all together?

On my list once we get the house with garage. They are actually cheaper than the rarer 3 door cossie now, although the escorts seem to suffer with rust more than the older versions

Fascinating. Looking forward to updates.
Well done for rescuing it. How do people let cars get in to this state? Why not sell it before it gets this bad or at least try to protect it from the elements?
