WYIOC - Elvington Runs 1st & 22nd
#62
David. I'm sure Ian will fill in the detail, but readings were taken prior to him going out and all was fine.. He was only over the limit on one short stretch coming off a tight right hander... few yards up the straight the engine came on cam and the exhaust opened up quite nicely (much to everyone's delight ).. the rest of the course was OK, even though it came on cam several other times..
Seriously screwed the laps up for him and ruined the aural pleasure for everyone else..
I hear that the reading was 96 db, but the track limit was 105. So I'm not sure what was happening considering that the difference is some 6 times louder between 96 & 105. Anyway, I could hear the tyre screech from a Sierra Cosworth that was clearly audible as we way made our way onto the main road... far more piercing.. plus there were bike engined track cars there that were clearly at or just under the same limit, but for much longer...
Rules is rules as they say..

The valves open at 4,500 revs which takes it way over 105 dB
When the did the test in the line-up, they only needed 4,000 revs so it measured approx 100 dB and passed.
No problem all morning but in the afternoon the local tree huggers turned up and complained about the noise. The only compromise was to keep it in high gear and under 4,000 revs going past the only spectator section close to the pits and then boot it round the rest of the circuit.
2 problems - it completely ruined my rythmn + everyone else on the circuit could'nt understand why I would let everyone past in the spectator section and then boot it past them on the rest. It also meant that for the afternoon no-one got the aural delights including myself when Paul drove it and all I wanted to do is hear it from the outside.
Don't think I'll be going there again....
Oh yeah - there were plenty of other cars as loud, if not louder but then picked on mine as an example - gits

must apologise about the filthy DBM in that line up
didnt have a chance to wash it.. and it looks mighty skanky in that pic
normal service is now resumed tho;
btw- how much space do you need to host the vid's?

he was certainly demolishing most of the cars..
certainly on the straights and he went round most of the bends on 3 wheels..
He even popped a tyre
Tyres looked like proper slicks to me.. if they were road legal I didnt see the markings..
but then what do I know

Right, this needed a bump 'cos it was on page 9,583,564,856
Who's going to the Shootout? Anyone?
Where and when are we meeting for the run up to Elvington?
Or shall we all send the organisers a big and stay away due to rather high entry fees?
I'm up for it if there's enough interest, but don't know if I can be ar$ed dragging the family (and liddle dawg) up there for the day if we're gonna be Billy-no-mates

Sorry, not me I don't particularly care for drag strip stuff after going twice last year and getting quite bored both times. I don't wanna waste precious holidays and the price is way too high for something that I'm not interested in
Hope you have a good day Catch you all next week

My thoughts exactly. I'm looking at £50 just to get in, then the wiffy and kids will be bored stiff after the first three cars have gone down the strip...
B'locks to it. I'll still have a hangover from Saturday night anyway (Eurovision , far and away THE best entertainment on TV)

OK, OK it was called 'Emma' had a wheezy two stroke jobby restricted to 5 MPH.. and took 30 minutes to do a mile or so up the river and back again.. Children waved, women smiled and blokes laughed.. I can take the embarrassment... at least I wasn't shopping like those other poor souls... well, not all day anyway!! Great fun though!
Your bike ride, pint and pub food sounded far too nice! Hope you didn't fall off too much?

Fall off? Nope!
Have Chris ride me to within an inch of my life? Oh yes!!! (God only knows what Apple's gonna make of that sentence )
Did Ryhill to Castleford (9.25 miles) in 26 mins, including a 2 minute wait for him to catch up
Nackered isn't the word.
Thankfully my delaying tactics worked at the pub. As gentle word in the Maitre'd's shell like and the food was delayed for 30 mins, leaving a little recovery time.
Sounds like York was fun. I promise not to make any comments about riding Emma slowly. (That's Andy's job)
Manda, there just seemed to be a distinct lack of interest from most people. I'll probably get shot for this, but how many times can you watch cars shoot away from traffic lights before it gets a little boring?
Probably be going to TOTB, though
