WYIOC: Garage Advice
Lads,
My Scoob has started playing silly buggers (after only a couple of weeks ownership. See http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=429201)
Anyway, who would be best to take it to (around the Wakefield area)? My usual garage in Ossett are great but i think it really should be with someone who specialises in Scoobs.
If i could drag it to the TP on Thursday would anyone be able to have a drive/listen for me? (or would it be daft to keep driving it around?)
Cheers

Evening mate. It really depends on what the noise is and where it's coming from. It could be be something really easy and cause ni issues, or a major breakage waiting to happen..
The guys will be able to listen in and tell you what's wrong.. Corradoboy mainly, has fixed a few issues in the carpark, the last being Dazza with a loose IC pipe..
Anyway, YHPM..

Just read the thread you listed
No idea from you description. I think someone would definately have to listen to it..
I had something similar on my old WRX that was probably a bit more 'buzzy' that turned out to be a cracked heat shield..

Defo sounds like a heat shield 'zizzing' to me, if it's revs related like you say Kel. Unless it's a 'slapping' sound, in which case it's more likely to be an internal engine problem...
Does it occur when stationary and with the clutch depressed/engaged etc?
I reckon that you need to bring it along for the full pub car park analysis mate.

Stationary it doesn't make a sound (apart from the S-AFC unit which shakes like a shi**ing dog due to it being held on by stickytape). And it only seems to occur when the clutch is released...
I'll bring the old girl along on Thursday and let you experts run wild
Cheers matey

Just got back from the garage. It seems something major has broken/is going (he said something about a crank then something else about the "big end")
2 weeks of ownership and i'm already looking for a new engine. No-one happens to know of anyone or anywhere do they? (Scoobybits have a good deal on one but ideally i could do with saving some cash towards the fitting of the thing)
Might it even be worth getting it rebuilt?

Jeez mate, if true, that is really bad news After some track use or long term ownership this is one thing that you would expect or it is something that can affect anyone. But after only two weeks, that's a bit of a kick in the nuts.. Few Q's;
Clutching at straws a little, but.. If you got it from a dealer, can you not take it back? Is there some form of warranty from the previous owner who may have had a rebuild but failed to mention it?
Hope it works out ok..
- Is it definately the crank/big end?
- Have you had a second opinion?
- Will one of the lads be able to confirm?

The garage defo said crank/big end. But they also in fairness recommended me get a second opinion (which i'm doing tonight but will also roll along to the TP tomorrow for a third).
It was a private sale and i've been trying to contact the guy but heard nowt back
Cheers mate

Kel,
Two local places I'd recommend are....
Richard-Henry Autos
Unit 5, Bowling Park Close, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD4 7HG
Tel: 01274*732508
....and a guy whom PaulEds knows that we'll discuss tomorrow night, due to his close relationship with Scooby officialdom
Other than that I'd recommend the Scoobyclinic, or API engines should the worst become true

Kel,
As Corradoboy says don't panic, we now have a Scooby Oracle on board who shall always remain nameless on here but who has just sorted my poorly car out in 3 hours.
Full details tomorrow night, come and find me for a chat mate.
Paul.

I'll do what I can for coming tomorrow anyway. Might be about 8:30-9:00 before I can get there - have family commitments beforehand. Hope people won't mind me coming in the "other" car?

That's great to hear matey, i've had no real experts look at the Scoob yet (just loads of "oooh that's gonna cost" and "ouch, you'll be paying out loads" comments from local garages). I'll come see you at the TP tomorrow (i'll be in the 15mph max', noisy sonic blue classic)
Nice one mate and looking forward to seeing the WYIOC guys again!
