400 BHP/380 lbft (est. as detuned for safety) was fun at Knockhill, didn't feel too much for the mildly breathed on chassis and the numpty driver, despite the part throttle control not being as silky as I would like due to AVC-R's desire to run high part throttle duty, MAF sensor reversions etc, although these were minor irritations. It would have been more fun with more power For the road any more is silly.

Hi John,
Are those figures you suggest BHP or ATW ?
So you are saying that on a JDM STI7, 2 litre a healthy 400 BHP / 400 TQ is the sweet spot for daily driving, i.e. not losing too much low down spool up but also having the monster midrange ?
Is this possible on a JDM STi7 with 100 RON fuel (found a place can get race gas mixed with regular gas that gives 100 RON) and 35' degree ambient temps to achieve this 400/400 ?
Mods needed: New turbo, new zorst from turbo back, fuel pump, intake, custom remmap ? 400 / 400 flywheel ?
Cheers,
Ray

Steven,
Thanks for that.
What you say makes sense to be honest..... but unfortunately unless I get in some thing that is more powerful then the 500 was I will always feel cheated. Saying that perhaps it's time to move on and don the pipe and slippers!
It has to be said though.... what ever way I turn I must ensure I get to test drive a car that has the required level of tune by the company who will end up doing it. To change from the dainty PPP to something else (bearing in mind my driveability and reliability requirements), I will need to feel first hand what I am buying. Had I known what I knew after spending the £10k I doubt I would of chosen that path...... at least not on a car with only RWD!
John,
Any more for the road might be silly but I found it quite amusing leaving anything that came my way for dead on the motorway! If I was you I would be grinning from ear to ear now!
Regards,
Shaun.

Flywheel Ray, would think for 400/400 in hot climate you would be better with more cubes? Monster midrange, high ambients, small engine, good response, daily driver don't all really mix IMHO, you'll need to compromise and/or spend $$$$$.
Good midrange, low ambients, slightly larger engine and moderatre response are what I'm aiming for.
The worry is Shaun, the old license on the motorway.

Andy,
What would you suggest as being "pushed" as regards to power on both a 2l & 2.5l?
What would you suggest as being "safe" & "reliable" for everyday driving as regards to power on both a 2l & 2.5l?
Even though I appreciate that power is not directly relational to "safe" & "reliable", but lets assume the knowledge of the company and parts were pucka. I also appreciate the question could be subjective from one person to another so I don't want to start a war..... I just just generally interested (as I am sure many others are).
Regards,
Shaun.
P.S. Apologies to John for side tracking your thread.

Shaun if you want something you can get in and 'rag the ****' of then 350 - 400 is about right IMHO.
Mine makes around 360bhp @ 0.6 bar so I suppose you could just run foooookk all boost during the day and then for special occasions WIND IT UP : D

I wouldn't go for the 2.0 or the 2.5 for a big bhp build Shaun ! 2.5's have yet to prove themselves over 10,000 miles at 450+ bhp
David and I (and some others) run a 2.33.
If you use OE 2.2t cases, they combine the strength of an unmachined closed deck block and added features such as piston cooling sprays.
I would say 450 bhp is the practical limit for a 'rag the ****' off it build. As David mentions, you could have a higher setting but that would just be for short bursts.

I have a feeling the right 2.5 would last fine running 500hp flwheel with a large turbo with reasonably high lag (ie gt35R) and 450hp with a more sensible turbo such as a GT30R.

Snowed under at the mo, so just a quick note to say it was in Shootout Mode, which sets the ramp rate at 10 km/h/sec, run time should be in the order of 10 to 15 seconds at that, will check dyno logs to confirm.
back to work....

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I was running the RS500 up to about 4 weeks ago!!! I appreciate all to well what lag feels like from a large turbo (Tractor T4 )....... but because it was only recent, I also remember what 2.3-2.4 bar of boost feels like!

Nice one Pat, thanks for the reply.

Having checked the dyno logs I can confirm that the run time for this run was 13 seconds, but my recollection of power at the wheels is a little lower than 460 BHP. I will have another peek tomorrow to confirm that is indeed the case, however the estimated flywheel figure on the dyno correllates to the graph that has been put up (no wonder, as it was printed on the dyno )
The exhaust has now been repaired, and we eagerly await dyno time in the next few days to finalise the mapping ready to run the car and see what it can do Looking back at the dyno logs, we still seem to be making about 10 BHP per PSI of boost, and we ran 24 PSI to get this figure, if this keeps going the way it has done, then we might see 570 BHP. Please remember, that this is on plain Optimax, it stands a good chance of going over 600 BHP with some decent fuel
Cheers,
Pat.

i was bored ffs, thought it would be interesting to see the headers change colour, however, i nearly had to change my underwear, as the car "jumped" up the rollers a little.
David said" were you just under the front of the car"
Me "yes"
