Bolt-on 360 bhp x 330lbft: Phase one started.
Indeedy!
What a buzzzz
110 mph deep into 4th on a tree-lined track just 12 feet wide............wow.
Should say a big thanks to AndyF as the Impreza hummmed away while the Motec guys coughed and spluttered like a dose of flu!
Great fun.

Mark:
Previous best was 60.01 (how painful is that when gunning for a '59'?).
That was a warm cosy August after a season of getting into the groove.
Cutting the 59 was the goal for this year.
My starts were cr@p.
Usually do the 64 foot mark in 2.09 secs, but best today was 2.3...
Gearbox still in one piece so that is good. Will 'give it death' at the next round at Prescott and sod the box.
Knackered now, all this excitment!

It is my own gearbox. Replacing it with a 5 speed PPG kit. Now the car is no longer a daily runner, and will be more orientated to drag when its not on the road, i have decided a 5 speed will suit me better.
You what?

When you have had a scoob for 6 years, done 25 to 30 thousand miles a year, been brought up on a farm and used to noisy tractors, etc, etc, you get used to noise.
Remember, it will use the original 5th gear.
I have adjustable hearing

Those words echo around your crash helmet on a hill climb too...
Just got the Big Scoop won on eb@y.
Superb to say the least, bigger opening and full area.
Will have a go at fitting tomorrow and post the episode.
Actually been doing the brakes on the 911. Almost refreshing to work on the old friend; just so simple a car in comparison.

I think next Prescott is 31 April (practice) and Race day the 1st of May.
I've entered as it's a Championship date, not yet confirmed that I have an entry.
Would be happy to meet you!

Scoop time!
Took the following to let you see it all. So simple, but irritating.
Why?
Simply because the Sti8 TMIC is so far back on the engine, I still can't get cold air to the hotest rearmost area
so, I cut it all short and opened up as much as I dare and screwed it all together. I have a bigger scoop fpr more air and have exposed about another 10% of the core, so not too bad.
Scoop is a good fit considering it's hand laid f/glass. Colour is almost spot-on too!

Hard to photograph, but the new scoop is much larger than it seems here.

Old scoop off. Note how little of the TMIC is actually exposed on the classic bonnet.

After chopping the shield about a bit you can see the leading edge of the core, and here the depth of the TMIC under the bonnet:

Shield back in place and the spray nozzels better directed now to the core face

Finally, the scoop bolted on and looking good but not too Boy Racer (?)

All for £72.

No, I need to finish working on that poor car
It won't be leaving the confines of the garage until it's ready to run again...mainly because it requires 4 people, 2 trolley jacks, a pair of wheel dollies and no bumper to actually get it out
That's a side door you can see in the background, the garage is an L shape and is built inside a tractor shed...

I've already wiped round the engine bay and doors with a special car dusting mop thingy that I found lying in the garage so it's nowhere near as bad as it was in that pci. But there's no way I'm going to be giving it a wet wash!
Yes, you (may be) right.
I did this when I raced the 911. Took the 20Kg seat out for a weekend or two.
Came the day I put it back in to bring my daughter back, and went quicker with it in!
I think there are more substantial influences than the odd 30 Kg in a given race, most important of all is driver comfort/confidence.
Of course, get it all together, weight/skill/attitude etc and you will do well. I think that was where I had arrived last hill climb, hence the result.
Keeping that approach constant is a skill in itself!
Thanks for the thought though.

Just a quick hill climb report:
Back from a Championship weekend with the Sti at Prescott.
First in Class @ 48.48 secs
Quickest personal best at Prescott, was 49.26 before

Quickest for me off the start line/64ft @ 2.05 on road tyres

Leading the Championships in Class...cant last.
Car is ballistic, gearbox still in one piece, thrashed harder than ever now
Barbon in 2 weeks time, never been there before, so could be tough, BUT, only 2 cars in the class!
