STi8 on a classic does look poo IMO.

STi8 on a classic does look poo IMO.

also sits further foward so no loss of air at a higher speed IMO.

Scoobymods:
THAT is what I'm after!
All the details please asap.
Flat, Maybe a bit naff, but worth the try unless the above is cheap.
Tim, such a stock scoop is for auction on eb@y now!
Consider this techies:
The scoop guides the air off the bonnet to the exposed face of the TMIC fin pack.
Assuming the air does not leak by, that air will try to get out the easiest way, hopefully through the core.
The core is hottest at the back edge of the TMIC, so you want most of the high speed airflow to go there. I can't help imagine the need for a baffle/guide vane would impeed the flow in general?
Just a thought.
Graham.

[flame suit] Reverse inlet and FMIC ? [/flame suit]
Just an idea ......
Not wishing to be awkward, but do you also need to consider the 'purpose' ? If the car is doing continual high speed will it require a different scoop/feed/guide than a car doing low->mid speed bursts ?
Might also be worth bearing in mind the intake temperature - If this can be lowered, surely the requirement on the I/C is greatly reduced also ?
There is also the 'flow-out' to consider - how easily does the air get out from under the bonnet - I think that Harvey had some observations regarding the UK style under-engine tray on this.....
Graham, I'm fairly sure that the STI has a splitter arrangement in the scoop (Been a while since I looked at the top scoop) - Can't say for sure that STI know its right, but I can take a guess....again, maybe this compensates at high speed for the high intake velocity, but isn't needed at lower speeds ?
I wonder if there is any mileage in a vertical section to the i/c, like the rs200, but bonnet mounted, rather than roof - in the back of the scoop, rather than just under it ?
Mark

Graham, i take it you've seen my Zerosports duct? That's what you need. You just need to fabricate something specifically for your scoop/tmic - not too challenging with the OE undertray for the basic dimensions. It also makes it easy to mount water spray either on the tray itself or better in the skirt spraying across the intercooler.
I've done a semi-job on my Stiv3 tray. To make a custom tray will be easy (have the steel already)
Actually found a cheap v3 scoop to cut and shut.
Full-on scoop is 140 unless I can bag the eb@y one for considerably less I will diy it and proove Flat wrong that I can make it look goooood

That's a good pic.
Look ar the area just below the scoop upper lip. If you cut that open (and through the bonnet too) the remainder of the TMIC is exposed. This is why I need a scoop that will have its front lip right up to the scoop front line where it meets the bonnet location.
I need a scoop to maximise the air to the TMIC at '0' to 70 mph.
I think I'm nearly there!

Graham as i said in my pm to you the scoop i have start's right at the front edge and only goes in for about 12mm then you can touch the metal of the bonnet which is normaly cover'd by the standard scoop
Just won that colour matched deep Sti7 Classic bonnet scoop on ebay, now that's a first.
Carl, I hope you are right that the boost will go up, and the temps come down.
Can't wait to cut into my rare alloy bonnet with my tin-snips...more precision engineering about to happen. Could do with your dad's skills now Carl!

I think you mean Steve wrt to boost/temps.
I looked in on the scoop with 3 mins left to go but decided against bidding - the future of the Bosch is uncertain atm and i knew you'd get the good of it on the hills.

I'd stitch drill what you want to cut out. Tin snips are nasty things. It takes a bit of patience and a careful hand but is easier to get good results from imo. Finish with a file and you'd never even tell Subaru didn't make them like that originally.

Yes, Skoops.
Thanks for 'keeping away' from the scoop on eb@y, I had a few $$ in there above the final price, but not much!
Carl: Chain drilling, I last did that as an apprentice w a y back. A very long time ago.
Only kidding, just all that filing....

Spoke to Stuart Knight about the larger bonnet scoops and he does make these. They are not on his website just yet though.
£175 + £10p+p for the carbon scoop
£125 + £10p+p for the fibreglass version

Thought some would like to see this lot, but raced in the first round of the Championship this weekend, came first in Class and did a personal best in the car
(and, yes, there was more than me in the class)
Moody shot:
The kind of cars my friends drive on a Sunday:

Pressing on:

Something a bit special, Arrows V10, what a sound!

Something very special No 2.

Last moody shot, you can't believe how fast he was going...

Bye for now, a bottle of red awaits...cheers!
Graham

No, but i went faster!
The short wheelbase Quattro's are classed as sportscars, so in the next class.
This one was sick this weekend, but a very nice car.
The classes are split now, so C1 as it's called is over 2 litres Saloon, and C2 is over 2 litres sports.
