Bolt-on 360 bhp x 330lbft: Phase one started.

Would fit, air entering after the MAF causes the AFR to become lean and ECU tries to fix this by adding more fuel, and this then causes more air to leak.

Done it.
Took the Idle speed contoller off (without taking the TMIC off!) and cleaned it all, the slide valve, the rubber coller and the delicate sprung diaphram valve too.
Removed the magnet head also but that was surgically clean!
Screwed it all back on.
Found also that the vac tube off the FPR to inlet manifold at the manifold was a slack fit, so sleeved the brass tube using heat shrink tube and achieved a tight fit.
Restarted the engine and the prob has gone.
The check engine light is still on, so that it the next job after tubing up the turbo to the 3 port solenoid instead of the Blitz boost controller.
Fingers crossed.
Graham.

A special THANKYOU to Jon, (Customscooby).
Checked the cel fault on the dash (those black connectors are hard to find...) and got '44' = Boost solenoid. I had wired it back to front.
Fixed that, piped the 3 ports to the turbo/inlet pipe (thanks Carl!) and it almost looks done.
I don't know to any other probs right now, so just the Apexi FC to drop in (as if..) in prep for Andy F mapping, and a tidy up of the garage.
Got all the suspension to clean yet

Too true, what a result!
Better start looking for a 6 speeder very soon....
It was great being able to refer to these threads on Projects for advice and instruction last night to get the issues sorted out there and then.

I'm bored!
I am literally waiting for the Andy mapping on the 17th.
the car only needs a bit of pre-competition clean/check and a map and we are done (with phase 2) then!
There will be 4 cars maybe mapped from my house here, so that should be interesting if the others will let me 'show it' to you all.
After such a busy time in the garage, it all feels......well, boring
Off the Roger Clarkes now to get some NF incase I go to a mixture for normal running or keep to straight Optimax.
Better open that debate to see what you all think

Exactly.
The Sti is really a hill climb car driven to and from the events, only 3000 miles a year, always at weekends and in the March to Sept season.
I remember Andy and others saying on other threads that the NF/Optimax cocktail will give about 5% maybe more if mapped -in.
I think I will have about 10 tankfulls a year of fuel, if that, so I will run the cocktail as 'standard'.
Could have spent a FORTUNE at Roger Clarkes this morning, but 2 bottles of NF and a copy of the new Subaru Mag was it.
Place was flooded with cars, and a P1 to die for.....but it looked standard so that won't do!
Marshalling at the Club's Sporting Car trial tomorrow, a hillclimb of a very different type!
The Season is started!

And now for something COMPLETLY different:
The techno scrutineering bit, checking for limited slip diffs and tyre pressures set at 2 psi, yes 2!
Enough of the non scooby stuff, but it was a great day of different motor sport, thought you would all be interested! Mega skill to drive up those slopes

But of course!
Sporting Car Trials, very special cars, can cost £25K each new!
Very muddy today, did my bit marshalling on a Worcestershire hill side.....
Should have been doing the Sti's suspension.
Autotests in 2 weeks time and then the moment of truth, the first practice day for a real hill climb.
Will the gearbox survive?
Will the engine survive?
Will I be able to cope with 380 bhp and rising?
Yikes

re: Optipish/NF....
would it not be safer to map only for the optimax? That way should you ever be caught out (however limited the mileage is) then you wont be screwed over.
With some simple load testing you could quickly work out how much advance you can put in (with commander) and go from there.
whereabouts in the country are you G.?

I had the same thoughts when I had my car mapped. But remember this is essentially a competition car and therefore you want the maximum power output. If it was solely a road car then fine map without.
Map with NF in my opinion.
I had mine mapped with NF 2.5 capfuls per tank but with the water injection switched off, for added safety.

Torque steer?
I had 4 Rover Vittess 800's, so I'm a master of anticipation............
And an MG Montego Turbo just as a surprise
I think Mark is right (for my non daily driver), but that is why I bought the FC Commander too! I'm sure Andy can suggest an 'easy map' for Optimax only.
Anyway, bought 2 bottles of NF now!
Peanuts, I'm up in the West Midlands.
God, it's taking a l o n g time for the 17th to arrive.
Graham.

Awesome thread this,
Thanks to you Grahem for putting in all this effort to make this thread.
Am thinking of fitting STI 8 top mount myself, so this thread will be very handy.
Second thoughts............ might just fit a front mount, should be a lot lot easier
Andy

Thanks for the kind words.
In hindsight I think fitting a FMIC is easier than the Sti8 conversion, but if I had gone that way then I bet I would have wanted to reverse the inlet manifold!
The 'hardest' part of all this lot is the messing about with all the tubes and the fuel system, the rest is realy mecanno and (lots of) $$$.
I'm realy looking forwards to the mapping game and racing the car to compare the results in driving terms, not just bhp numbers.
A fast car is a blend of power and chassis, and that little special thing, a good driver....
Oh, in trouble again! (missing the 3rd bit)

Reverse the inlet manifold, now theres an idea!
Could this possibly have a detramental effect as the pipe into the manifold would have to run over the top of the engine instead of work its way around, hence warm the air back up.
Envy you a bit with the racing, used to race bikes myself. Hell of a buzz this racing lark.
