Scoobyboy.

I moved for the 360 on the straight around the next corner. I think I then shouted at him coz he didnt come past quick enough and made me brake for the next bend lol ......I then spent the remaining 12KM or so trying to hang onto his rear end and listening to that gorgeous scream as it accelerated. He ended the lap about 100 yards infront of me. He did have a bit of a sideways moment when he touched the brakes ontop of a crest at 150mph, clean trousers required me thinks.
The lap is on here somewhere if you do a search ....... I put it up about a month ago.

Oh and it was a proper Stradale alright. There were about 6 off them there along with every other kind of exotica under the sun for Scuderia training.

The car makes the drivers think they're better than they are and teaches them nothing about actual car control, imo. Virtually anyone can get in an impreza and be quick, talent or not.

I'm not a great driver but still did a 1.22 around dono on toyos in the scoob.

That just shows your lack of understanding of the Impreza in limit handling. Yes they are easier to drive than a lot of cars out there in normal driving, which is a very good atribute for the cars design of AWD and low C 0f G, but once you get towards the limits of the chassis they take a lot more skill to drive at those limits than most conventional cars such as a RWD, front engined car.

You can learn a huge amount about car control in an Impreza, it requires diferent techniques to exploit its potential compared to a RWD or FWD car and when you start to use the car at the upper end of its capabilities, you are working at much higher speeds and the inputs you use are much more critical than "conventional" cars, quite often you have to drive the car in a way that goes against instinct to use that last few % of its dynamics.

You still dont answer the question regarding your logic, are you saying Impreza drivers are more likely to be **** than any other drivers, because the car has superior capabilities to most other cars and so **** drivers go out of their way to give themselves this advantage? That doesnt make sense to me, i would say you will have an equal % of ****, average and good drivers accross any performance car owning driver cross section. But then i dont have a chip on my shoulder about any marque of car driver, be that Porsche, Ferrari, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan or Westfield.

ffs John, take the comment as it was meant, in jest, hence the smiley.

That just shows your lack of understanding of the Impreza in limit handling
Does it? Imprezas are a piece of cake to drive fast John (in stdish form) in normal or on the limit. They're friendly, they don't bite back and don't have any nasty characteristics. They are very forgiving and you can get away with a lot of abuse and poor driving that you couldn't in other cars. This lulls owners into a false sense of security, thinking they're great drivers when they're not - it's the car that takes the credit. You even said yourself when talking about our westie, that scoobs teach you very little about car control and are a piece of cake to drive quickly so I'm not sure why you're making an issue out of it.

As to your last comment, I'm not sure what to say - good job 'cos you've got too many other chips for it to fit?

Regarding the **** drivers/scoob thing....I reckon, as stated above, it's not much different to any other car. However, there may be a number (small or large, I dunno) that like the idea of driving fast but don't have the ability to do so in something more challenging or less forgiving so a powerful AWD is a good option.

That's why there was a spate of written off Impreza's on trackdays a couple of years ago that upped everyones insurance premiums then?

Anyone who writes off a Subaru at a track day is driving beyond his abilities. I guess that validates Craigs comments

Have to say, an Impreza is one of the easiest cars to drive hard I've ever experienced. 4WD, understeer before oversteer (safety first ) and no snap characteristics mean you really need to be driving like an **** to get well out of shape.

John,

My sight gets clouded from people who take things too literally and out of context.
I'm rarely serious (just like you're rarely funny (except looks wise ))

That's why there was a spate of written off Impreza's on trackdays a couple of years ago that upped everyones insurance premiums then?
What I should've said is they don't bite back without extreme provocation, but then then no matter how friendly a car is, there's always a point of no return. The reason there were a spate of written off Imprezas (in the main) is because the owners thought they were invulnerable - they thought they were great drivers (thanks to the car) and when the **** hit the fan, they ran out of ideas and ability. The "better" drivers that this unfortunately happened to, would probably admit this. One other reason is that I'd guess Imprezas were the most common trackday choice at the infancy of trackdays and there were a lot of inexperienced drivers out there suddenly hooning around on track.Probably believing the car/themselves were invincible too. I did at one stage - one wet dono day, surface had been patched up, was pi55ing down with rain, I went into craners at about 115mph (thought "it's 4wd, doesn't matter if it's wet" ) hit the repatched tarmac which was seeping and spun. 3 times I think before I got firmly and deeply wedged in the gravel a couple of feet away from the armco. It was then I realised I need driving lessons . I am certainly a lot better (not saying much) now than i was in those early UK turbo days. I hit cones much faster nowadays but don't tend to spin. Even in the Westie. John.

Hawkeye ......... The comment wasnt aimed at you in the slightest.

To be honest I dont mind Nova boys or any of the other boy racer types. We have all done it and we would all still do it if behind a ferrari or lambo given half the chance.

What i meant was I wonder how many Nova drivers have overtaken a scoob on a track day in the same kind of way you described it against the 360

people don't believe the story until they see the proof.......... only trouble is the damm camera was shaking all over due to over excitement.

I have the same kind of footage from the 'ring' mate. When I first overtook a 911 turbo in my 205 i posted it and got slated, he wasnt trying etc etc ....I even waited till a section where I knew my other half was videoing from coz i wanted it on camera haha .....

I dont tend to get so excited anymore but hey its still a buzz ........
