Dalton was actually approached to play the role of Bond after Connery retired in the early 1970's, apparently he turned it down as he considered himself too young at the time. Totally agree though he was an excellent Bond and although he only did the two films, I rate both of them very highly. The Living Daylights was in the classic Bond style whilst Licence to Kill was the Bond film that Dalton wanted it to be: way more gritty and realistic than previous offerings.
He starred in Flash Gordon as well.
