Simon,

I was looking at the pics and I noticed a pipe on the header tank that goes back on it's self. Where does it normally go?

Hi Paul

That's the pipe that normaly goes to the little pipe at the top of the rad, mine is broken off - hence the mod...

When my new rad is fabricated i'll use it again

Cheers

Thought it was time for a bit of an up-date! I've got a 2.5lt short-block on the way from the USA (arrives tomorrow!) so i'm not really doing much engine tuning now just a bit of preliminary work on the intake system and how it responds to the ram-air effect. It can generate some weird MAF readings so I was keen to explore this. Once you do a little re-scaling it seems not to be an issue (admittedly I have not had it up to a decent speeds yet) so we'll see on this one.

I upped the boost at the top end bit and reduced the mid range, now 2.2bar absolute all the way to 8k (from about 3k up) Launching with the DCCD-A in auto mode (about 4k rpm) gives huge wheelspin, so bad in fact that once the clutch is fully engaged you can actually rev the damn thing with the wheels spinning like a 20 year old XR3i on bald crossplies pulling out of a T junction...

Launching in DCCD-A manual mode 50/50 locked is much much better, you can side step at about 5800 get a little slip and off you go, though i'm getting some quite bad tramp effects now suggesting that I need to up-grade the diff support bushes! (the T bar already has power-flex bushes in it) I'm changing up at an indicated 8100 ish which comes up in the log file as about 8k which does not get you 60 in second (hence the crap 0-60 times)

I have decided to do another set of figures before taking it off the road for the 2.5lt conversion as I have a set of Pirelli Corsa 225/40/18's to go on it I'll take a bit more fuel out too as the wideband suggests it's running richer than a very rich thing...

Cheers

Simon

2.2bar absolute, about 1.2 bar manifold, stock is circa 1 bar manifold, oh and I think it's a VF36 (for what it's worth) it is off it's optimal efficiency of course but as it's going to be obsolete in a couple of weeks I thought I'd give it a go. I turned down the mid range (from 1.25 / 1.3 manifold) because it's fine with 1.2

I only need 0.5 - 0.75 bar manifold most of the time, certainly 0.75 bar manifold and revving it to 5k will get you up to reasonable speed in a fairly short time

Simon,

I thought the whole point of the Auto mode was it was far quicker at reacting and changing settings than manual mode?

Or is DCCD-A not designed to have the power you are putting through it.

Well I think the "power" is nit-**** to be honest, i'd be very surprised if it was 300bhp (ok, now I have increased the boost it may be slightly over that)

My view is that everything that's been written about DCCD-A so far is for the GD body, as far as I'm concerned I'm "going my own way" hence the testing and the testing show's that going manual is much much better (for launching) than using auto, about 1500rpm better! plus my other comments

Cheers

Have you thought about getting a 1/4 time and possibly entering for TOTB??

Late entry might get in as there might be a couple of cars short..

Yes and Yes...

BUT only if I can get the intercooler to work properly! So far anything over about 110 and it's an interheater...

Yes, I agree, though I would say that at present it's not a "high power" car, just a light one...

It's always been my intention to use it, I don't see any point in having a "dyno queen" in fact I have very little interest in the power it makes, I just want to see the low ET's..!

Cheers
