Cheek!

Well I guess it's been a while! Well I've been kind of busy, not on the car though

Some of you may know that I look after export of road car parts for Prodrive and have spent a fair amount of time in LA helping the company that we had a royalty agreement with in the USA. This royalty agreement has now been dissolved and we are present in the US as a wholly owned subsidiary and As of a couple of weeks ago I now have a visa and am re-locating to the USA (Orange County) for the next 3+ years... So as you can image the last few months have been a little hectic but now I have the visa I shall be knuckling down and getting on with the car again

Some small changes have happened since I last up-dated my thread, I now have a LHD GC8 shell in the USA waiting for all the parts to be shipped from England, indeed I am here (in the UK) getting everything packed up at present so hopeful I will be back on soon up-dating as it all goes together AGAIN but in the USA this time!

Goals for the project have not really changed (single digit 1/4 time, 200+ top speed) though I now have some friends in LA who run turbo GC8's in various guises so we may have to start a small informal LA GC8 turbo club...

Cheers for now

Simon

I don't really understand the twin scroll benefit or indeed the cast 'down pipe' in the pics.
Best start to read the whole of the thread

Twin scroll spools a bit more quickly for a large turbo by making use of an exhaust manifold with each bank separately supplying the turbo so the pulsing effect of the flat 4 is smoothed out at the exhaust housing. I think that's how I understood it anyway

Well the twin scroll came with the engine so it seem'd rude not to at least give it a try...!

New turbo is GT30R

Cheers

I did not bother to try it with the 2lt, it's pretty damn good with the 2.5lt though!

Cheers

I "dry" installed the turbo, it feeds into the middle of two STi intercoolers which feed the seperate plenums, the water rad is in the boot. But now it's all in pieces again to go to America.

I have a GC8 over there that's ready to take all the parts so it should not take quite so long to do it this time, of course I've thought that before....!

But I have done this like 4 times now so I'm getting pretty good at it

Hi guys,

It’s been a while, time for an up-date! I’m now in the US permanently (for Prodrive) and as you can imagine this move has somewhat precluded too much work on the car…

But I’m here now as is all my Scooby stuff so it’s time to show this lot how to build a fast cat J

btw e-mail address is still slines@prodrive.com so not sure why you mail did not reach me.

I have two GC8’s over here now, a 4dr and a 2dr so I’m just deciding which to make a “daily driver” and which to “go mad” with!

It’ll be another few weeks before work starts in ernest again, I still have a number of boring “housekeeping” type things to do but after SEMA (5th Nov) I’ll be raring to go!!

Cheers all

Simon

Up-date time!

So I've now got a salvage 99MY 2dr Impreza 2.5RS, a 93MY Legacy estate 2.2lt turbo (big turbo, FMIC, 6 pot's, STi dampers & a spring kit) and a 95MY 4dr GC8 2lt NA (stripped)

The 2dr is going to the alignment rack this week for checking, it's main frame looks straight, it's bent in front of the front sub frame (both sides). I'm pulling the parts I need for the 2dr (no sunroof - roof skin, wings, front end etc) off the 4dr then the 4dr shell is being scrapped.

The Legacy is kind of fun, 2.2lt turbo (looks like a TD04 of some kind) with a bar and plate MRT FMIC, and a few other bits that I've not sussed out yet... Hits boost cut at .8 bar MAP so that needs sorting! But apart from that is a nice clean motor for day to day use.

I'm deciding the spec of the engine for the 2dr then I'll start building that in my mates shop along with assembling all the driveline / electrics etc

Piccies to follow in a few days

Cheers

Hi Simon!
Spent the last hour reading this thread and sent you an email also.
How is life in the US, must be alot different from Europe i guess?
And if you happen to run into the teutels you just let them hear what a real engine sounds like instead of those mopeds they drive around on .

Oh and whats new with the cars?

greets
