WRX-RA STi insurance write off to.....
Snap. Mine does 3000 miles a year going to and back from Hill climbs and the odd weekend thrash (hard to do nowadays), but can't stand trailers and the messing that goes with them.
So tempting, and a cheap performance gain.

they'll be no big push to anything else from me, apart from maybe a minor turbo upgrade and bigger injectors if i can afford it, gearbox is defo first on the list, i should be an expert at taking it out now anyway
well, removing the sound deadnening is fun
best time of year to do it though
3-4 hours to remove interior trim & sound deadening

i found it came off dead easy if you just hammered it like breaking toffee (as you can see where the back seats are), it's just a ******* when you get to the seam sealer on the floorpan as it's glued down and you have to chisel it off
5.5kg it weighed just for the record

well i got bored on Saturday so out came half of mine (wasn't going to rip up my carpet
)

weighed in at 3.5Kg - like carrying a heavy bag of shopping in your car
also removed the jack support, seat cross member & the lap belt (i do ocassionally have people in the back so the other belts stay....for now) so that's another kilo or so
next up is the A/C i reckon, never had it regassed in the 2 years i've had the car so in the bin it's going
i'll be getting the car weighed soon after that

The cross member isn't exactly heavy in the first place, it's quite a thin walled square section steel tube, I doubt making it in aluminium with the same strength would actually save more than a few grammes
I forsee trim removal and a carpeted firewall in my car's future

That's how mine is.
The fuel tank is sealed out of the cabin for motorsport purposes, so no sealed firewall needed.
The steel cross tube also stops anything in the boot intruding into the passengers backs if caught in a head-on crash.
Going to the races my boot is full of heavy stuff, ie trolley jack etc.

think it will stay as it is, seats are there for show 99% of the time and if they're used there's nothing in the boot, i've also removed the plastic & sound deadening back panel a while back
gotta start thinking seats and harnesses soon

my favourite website
quite like the new Sabelt seats, a bit heavy at 11Kg, but fibreglass seats are only 8-9Kg anyway, we'll see how desperate i am for weight saving

as it stood at start of play

WRC airbox mark 1

new alternator bracket robbed from a 15 year old 2.2 Legacy, saved a kilo there

glove box removed to access the air con rad for removal, total weight saving including the lighter bracket was 12Kg

some arty bollox to finish off with
