manifold all wrapped, don't 'think' much of the think auto stuff, too thick and seperates too easily

turbo before

and after, notice how i couldn't be bothered to take too much off
just took enough off the the edge to smooth the flow a bit, most of the work was on the wastegate opening as there were a few sharp edges on the castings, couldn't get a decent photo though
air inlet before

and after, ported it out to the lip and removed the cast seams and a few lumps

one set of wheels to go on, they haven't gone down yet so the rims have sealed and they balanced ok, will wait to see how it drives on them though as they looked a bit wobbly on the balancing machine
Hi Kev, long time no see. Whats all this wrapping about then? Looks like that pipe has been repaired in Hospital! LOL
Have you been to any meets lately?

funny we were talking about batteries last week, started ok after being sat with the alarm on for the last month or so, had it running fine for 20 mins or so, alarmed it and went inside to watch the footie, obviously starting it had drained the battery and off went the alarm, could i stop it? could i bollox!
popped the bonnet to connect the battery charger, went into the garage to find i'd lent it to a mate last week
i'm now stuffing rags into the alarm to shut it up and disconnecting the battery in a vain hope that the backup won't last more than 10 mins
kept going for bloody ages
sorted now as i've rescued the charger..............and it was raining during all this

driven it!!
not bad for saying i've only got 0.6 bar of boost, nothing fell off (that i know of) just a bit of smoke from the wrapping, think im set for tomorrow's mapping session

mapping went well, went with a super unleaded map to save me carrying OB with me everywhere, finding the plugs were knackered when we upped the duty cycle on the boost wasn't part of the plan so a change of plugs later and we managed to get a decent map in for 1.2bar (still room for improvement) but ran out time so 1.4 will have to wait
car drives superbly, so whatever it made on the RR was immaterial really
RR went well yesterday until we tried to get the car on the roller only to find that the exhaust system where it hung under the diff said no to the rollers
so off it all had to come and on with a TSL backbox and magnex centre (don't think it affected the result too much) we upped the duty cycle a bit more to get 1.3bar, results as follows:

i estimated 320bhp on the day and hey presto, although people who'd been to well lane were about 40bhp down on previous results, i guess if i want a 'pub talk' result i might go there next
decent airflow over the IC with a bigger scoop & water spray will see more power on road, not to mention octane booster if and when...
wheels and brakes today or tomorrow weather permitting

Glad you are happy with the car Kev.
It was a shame we didn't get to finish the map off as it is not even a complete map at 1.2bar.. just a very safe one. More timing to add and it is a bit rich during spool but as the time was running out (or rather had run out) for when you had to leave I did as much as I could and was not willing to guess anything.
Hopefully you will have sorted the air supply to the intercooler and waterspray by the time I get to finish the map off.
Very impressed with the car overal, and rather fancy an RA myself now..
Simon

Kev, looking to be a strong running car
The other mods you mention will really help on the road, the airflow/TMIC water and the booster, especially when having a real blast on the road, gunning the car to max time after time gets everything very hot.
Going to be a great summer!
Bet a good (cool) early morning run across the Derby Dales will take on a new dimension now
Graham.

car still felt quick today, will have to stop driving it for a few weeks so i don't get used to the power
weather held out today (just) so brakes and wheels are fitted at last

i tried to get a *** paper between the calipers and the wheels but failed
and for saying i didn't bleed them (shops shut = no brake fluid) they felt pretty solid, pads and discs still need bedding in...
handling seems alot lighter & more responsive with the new wheels & brakes
weighed the my00 wheels i took off, came in at 15kg with tyres, volks weighed 13kg, 2kg unsprung weight saving with the wheels only, didn't think to weigh the discs & calipers but there's easily another 2 or 3 kilos saved there (steel 2 pots weigh an absolute ton!!) aluminium nuts are next on the shopping list (not putting the red ones on, look gash
) roll bars are next on the handling agenda...

The 911 nuts are nothing like you might imagine, and were stock items from 1965!
They are a forged tube and very thin walled, large dia thread too, much bigger than the Scooby.
They sell, new, for £3 each, black anodised and you can buy a 'soft socket' to tighten them (thin rubber sleeve inside the socket) to preserve the anodising, typical Porsche (spend lots of money
)
Floyd, would be a great for us all to meet somewhere, but we all come from so many different parts (look at Carl!), also, i might feel embarrassed as I recon I'm about twice as old as you lot!
