False Insurace Claim.
#31
Well a friend of mine was seriously hurt on tuesday. A twit in a Royal Mail van (hate the f*ckers anyhow as per my other posts) pulled out of a back courtyard unable to see round the corner and my friend was zooming along on her scooter down a straight road and the van wasnt looking and she smashed headlong into the van (the van was right across the road.
She is ok but she can hardly move as her legs are genuinly black and blue from where she slid under the van and she is unable to move for the pain but had to go to work as she couldnt afford to take time off.
Now she is happy just for a bit of compensation and the scooter to be fixed (ie she is being very reasonable in the circumstances), but this git you are on about needs a damn good thrashing as there is nothing wrong with him and he wants all the money he is not entitled too.

TBH it's this kind of complacency that allows these types to get away with it. Tell him you *will* shop him if he doesn't abandon his false claim.

Isn't there a central insurance office? Something like the Association of British Insurers. Just give them a call, give them the name and location and let them get on with it. They may do nothing but you have done your bit.

Andrew, why are you getting so defensive for goodness sake??
*You* posted the thread, de facto inviting opinion. If you were never willing to do anything about it, then merely explaining the situation on a public bbs is little different from somebody else talking about telly programmes.
Less of the attitude, i say.

I knew someone who would always make a false claim on their travel insurance as they felt it was a way of getting a refund on the premium.
Once in the South of France, he went into local police to report his camera stolen on the beach. That afternoon I "accidentally" dropped it off a bridge. He was livid as it meant he really would have to buy a new one. Never spoken to me since.

It's not about being defensive. I'm perfectly open to suggestions on sensible ways to handle this. I'm just not going to allow UB to judge me so flippantly. To be accused of complacency when my given replies have not been read is -ridiculous. To directly confront this family member is also -ridiculous. I have no accurate evidence to offer any authority.
Try to visualize it. Put yourself in my shoes.
