It's due in Feb from Belgium - I plan to collect. I'll be sorting the insurance a couple of weeks before. Once I've got it, I plan to fit an alarm (probably Clifford), an insurace aproved tracker, locking nuts and a gearbox lock.

Obviously, this will all take a coupl of weks to get sorted. Will the insurace company cover me during this period ? Has anybody experianced problems with this ?

Cheers.

With Privilege I was told that there was 'no rush' when I imported my Dutch MY00. They didn't want to see the installation certificate or anything so I kept it.

I assume by their comment that I would have been 'covered' until it was stolen upon which I would no doubt have found out that I was NOT covered! Geddit?

They would be delighted if your car was stolen and they didn't have to pay up!

I like my Meta cat1 system as it has a v.bright flashin led on the windscreen that can been seen for 200m+

Privilege gave me 28 days to get a tracker fitted, during which I was not covered for the theft of the car

raganrock,

I don't doubt you were told that although does it really make much sense?

Did they ask you to send in an installation certificate by Day 28 or face having the whole policy voided?

My point is that if you are unlucky enough to have your car stolen at some future point but, you sensibly had the required Tracker/Immo etc. fitted, you could use the Tracker data and or Immo. installation certificate to prove it was theoretically 'secured' and thus make a claim REGARDLESS of an arbitrary 28 day window.

Whether you get it done within the initial 28 days or on Day 365 of your policy, I believe that it would only matter if you had to make a claim for theft and it could not be proved that you had the required security devices fitted.

PS. The only sensible thing to do it get it done ASAP. The longer you leave it, the longer you are at risk of failing to make a sucessful claim should you need to.

Sounds like I'm gonna have to sleep in it until it's all done.

Privilege have told me they will only cover me for theft for five days after I take delivery. They must then see a certificate proving a tracker on their list has been fitted,if theft cover is to continue.

From replies to other queries, however, it does seem that Privilege are totally inconsistent,- even about the need to have a tracker in the first place. Probably depends on who you talk to.

It depends upon the insurance company. With my last scoob (and this one) I have had both tracker and alarm/immob fitted for when I pick the car up.

If it is an insurance requirement for a tracker to be fitted be aware that you are not insured for theft until the device has been fitted... scary thought!

Just to add that my insurers quoted me for the cat1 alarm - i.e. lower premium but I wasn't covered for theft until they saw the alarm certificate. Needless to say it was parked up in a mates garage for the few days that it was vunerable! at least I could drive the thing ah, I still remember those first hours with scoob...

Wink

As Dave says...best thing to do is check with the insurance compnay anyway...

However in my experience, insurers generally give you a number of "days grace" to have one of their approved/recognised alarms, immobilisers or tracking systems installed...

Again, if in doubt...ask
