Sorry to crash this thread but i'm in the process of buying a V5 Type R and have a question. How can i tell if the car is V Limited or not? It has a roof vent but i cant tell you about the steering wheel and gearknob because it has aftermarket ones fitted. It also has an alloy bonnet and 22b vents,is that significant? What should i be looking for?

Some top motors on this thread,i'll post some pics up of mine when i get it

Catcus Jim what coilovers have you got fitted, I had some Avo's fitted to my old WRX and thought the ride was rubbish. Anyone else have upgraded springs and dampers which lower the car more than 20mm?

Anyway my car with new wheels and morrette headlights.

heres a copy of the original brochure (for a verion 6, think the 5 are more or less the same)

look for: blue dash, blue centre console, roof vent, blue seats with the STI WRC emblem stiched in, Rays engineering STI forged alloy wheels, plaque near ash tray with no. ???/1000, WRC gear ****...

my version 6 V Ltd comes with the uprated STi setup, looks about 30mm lower then a normal type R and a perfect match for the car

heres how it sits on mine:

Peccy according to this thread the V5 doesn't have the plaque, which is why i'm wondering if mine is V Limited. I thought the blue trim on the dash, blue centre console only started on the V6?

The 5 Type R Ltd did'nt come with a plaque, two distinguishing feature's of the Ltd are the roof vent and the longer 5th gear.

Simb

I think it was an option to either have the longer 5th or the short 5th.

I have the short
You have the long

I should have been clearer - I have a v5 STi Type R Limited that has the close ratio gearbox option, Simb2 has the same car with the same ratios 1st-4th.

On Simb's car there is a "jump" in ratios to 5th - motorway cruising gear
On my car, 5th gear is roughly the same as a UK Turbo's 4th, so I get full-on loony acceleration through the gears

This is because I have the short ratio option that was available on the Limited (or the option was the other way around - short standard, long option )

Didnt know your engine let go mate.
When I saw you at the Powrstation dyno day you were running a stock lump (cant remember exactly when but late 02 or early 03)
Far from stock now though mate with 400 big ones.
Who did the rebuild? Who mapped the Apexi? What boost you running?

300+bhp, white, looks like a 2003 wrx (is infact a lightweight Sti), THE best production impreza to come out of japan also the best handling impreza ever built
Mods:-
Knocklink
Hayward and Scott B/B.

Oh and please dont say STi engines are blueprinted as they are not, F1 engines are blueprinted and you see this by the time they last on the track (ie not very long).

Rob/ 5 Type R

I posted those details for SG72 - my engine hasn't let go, my turbo did though.

Replaced with VF34, EcuTEK mapping by Bob Rawle

Hows your car running, think I read somewhere you were having trouble - turbo or engine??

Is your Tein suspension OK for everyday use?

I'm booked in at PowerStation RR 3rd April - torque curve should be interesting

Quite fancy an FMIC now

Thumbs up

Ta! for posting Drew.

First had a VF 34 turbo fitted to my car after BLOW (Nice Turbo)
But was running out off usable puff, at 320.
That was with FMIC.

Drew,
Brilliant spec. Have you ever had any problems with the small plate as in Police? I want to put a plate on the front lip like yours

Just got the V4 Type R this weekend.... 1st scooby.... I did'nt realise driving could be this good coming from a long line of FWD cars.... Jesus.

4th time I've nearly lost the rear end so some clicks forward for me untill I can control it!

Strange wanting to run to the carpark after work just to start it up.... well spirited walk anyway..
