I've been looking into this due to a little... ahem ..."incident" that occured when I test drove mine... the backend "let go" rather quickly without any warning, coming off a roundabout, then accelerating onto a dual carrigeway in 2nd, luckily I wasnt going too fast and got it back without causing any damage (except to my underwear ) But, when I went back the opposite direction, approached the same roundabout and similar exit with the diff lock on full (which I now know isnt the best thing to do) the backend didnt budge. So it does work!!
From what I can gather, have the diff open (green light) when on dry tarmac and as the conditions get progressively worse (IE: dry roads - damp roads - wet roads/standing water - snow and icey roads) move the dccd up a notch at a time. It isnt recommended to have the diff fully locked on tarmac but this will give 50/50 power split and will offer the most stablitly when accelerating & braking. You'll have to bear in mind that with the diff open, its handling characteristics are more akin to a RWD than an AWD car.
I think alot of people adjust the dccd to a level of handling that they are comfortable with.. eg, the diff is open but as approaching a damp roundabout, slide the dccd controller forward a notch or two until the roundabout has been negotiated and exited then the diff set back to the open position. The diff should always be open when reversing etc...
There seem to be quite a few different opinions as to how it works and how best to use it... needless to say, I will take my time to get used to it before going on any serious run outs!

Modifications advice
My Type R V-LTD is bog standard engine wise as far as I know. It has a Godspeed 335mm front brake upgrade with braided hoses, and spec C suspension.
I'm looking at mods which include:
lightweight pulley set - gfb
better quality dump valve - re-circ possibly blitz
uprated fuel regulator/pump - blitz again
decat downpipe - don't know what make
Blitz induction kit
possibly a blitz FMIC
How much increase in BHP will these mods give? Are they worth doing?? And would my fuel useage diminish drastically as a result???
Any advice would be welcome!

I think the lightweight pulleys (for what they cost) arent really much of a benefit just on their own. And yes I have felt the weight difference between the standard pulleys and the GFB pulleys.
Nowt wrong with an upgraded recirc valve altho you wont feel any difference.
Uprated fuel pump is great if you are going to be running more boost and would really gain the benefit of that if you uprate the turbo and injectors aswell.
Decat the whole lot mate... deffo worth doing.
Induction kits are great if you make sure that it has a really good cold air feed and preferably shielded from the "dirty" air in the engine compartment. Personally, I just replace the panel filter, but the STi filters are good (IMO)
FMIC... great mod, the cooler the charge the better, just check what you need hack away to fit (usually part of the bumper)
With my Type R, im decatting it, fitting the Apexi Power FC and getting it remapped by Andy F and probably thats it for the while. I would like to think with that, I should be looking around 300 - 310 BHP?
I believe its quite hard to gauge bhp gains from FMIC, so couldnt say. The uprated fuel pump on its own wont (i think) give any more bhp without running more boost, the induction kit may see you a few bhp (more likely torque tho - which is better anyway), the recirc valve and pulleys wont give any power increase but should make the engine more responsive.
If you go for a full decat, you could be looking at 20 -30 bhp.

i had mine de-cat with HKS Hiper, Forge VTA dump valve, upgraded Walbro fuel pump, left the air filter and i think i was pushing about 310, the noise of the engine and exhaust was awesome!! was enough for me!

Not only do they make the Scoob look a little more agressive(if thats possible), they are alot better than the standard lights...especially on full beam.
